St Helens legend James Graham given huge honour

Post by josie andrews »

James Graham is already among a number of elite groups.

An England and Great Britain international, Graham has also contested Grand Finals in both England and Australia.

In fact Graham played in a Grand Final from every season from 2006-12 and again reached the decider in 2014.

A treble winner with St Helens in 2006, he contested NRL Grand Finals with Canterbury in 2012 and 2014 before his final game was a Super League Grand Final win back with Saints in 2020.

He also had a spell at St George Illawarra Dragons.

Graham’s best rugby perhaps came in an England shirt. No player has made as many England appearances as Graham and he has had the privilege of playing in a World Cup Final back in 2017 as well as in series wins over New Zealand and a Four Nations Final against Australia in 2011.

Now he has been recognised for his achievements internationally and will receive the Golden Cap which confirms his stats in an exclusive group to reach 50 test appearances becoming only the eighth man to receive such a feat.

Graham will be given the award as the World Cup heads to St Helens on Tuesday as Tonga, under former Saints boss Kristian Woolf, take on Papua New Guinea.

Graham, selfless as ever, will pass on the cap to his junior club Thatto Heath Crusaders where the ceremony will be held.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
