Kendall has gone viral on social media after Saturday night's showdown with the State of Origin flyer

Super League and Rugby League World Cup referee Chris Kendall has gone viral on social media after outpacing Australian winger Josh Addo-Carr. The Kangaroos flyer, dubbed the Foxx, in honour of his great grandfather Wally Fox, ran the length of the field for the holders on Saturday night as they started their mission to retain the coveted trophy with a resounding 42-8 victory over Fiji in Group B at Headingley.

However, it was the man in the middle who stole the limelight, as Kendall went toe-to-toe with Addo-Carr, creating a footrace between the pair as well as the Fijians who were unable to stop the Melbourne Storm winger crossing the whitewash.

Danny, a Castleford Tigers fan, tweeted, "Chris Kendall keeping up with The Foxx," followed by three laughing emojis, whereas Jonathan from Bolton posted, "Blink, and you'll miss...the ref! Chris Kendall's got wheels." A Huddersfield Giants fan account handed Kendall an award after the video broke on social media, saying, "Chris Kendall pulling away from Josh Addo-Carr proving the English ref is still the fastest man in Rugby League

Supporters from all corners of the globe have taken to social media in astonishment at Kendall's pace, with many saying he should be used as a winger rather than as an official. However, he was a halfback during his days at Huddersfield Giants' academy. He has been a full-time match official since July 2015 and officiated the 2019 and 2020 Super League Grand Finals

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
