England football band drafted in to boost Rugby League World Cup buzz at hosts fixtures

Post by josie andrews »

Officials are aiming to turn up the noise during England games!

The official England supporters band have been drafted in to help boost atmosphere during the host nation's quest for Rugby League World Cup glory. The band, who are regulars at England football fixtures both at Wembley and across the entire globe, will be in Bolton this Saturday to give their backing to Shaun Wane's side against France.

They are now expected to be at every England game for the remainder of the tournament, Rugby League Live understands. While the crowd at St James' Park for the opening match of the tournament was encouraging, with 43,119 spectators in attendance, there were complaints the atmosphere was flat in areas of the stadium.

Officials hope that the inclusion of the band at games from hereon out will change that. The band has also been invited to other games across the tournament, including fixtures in places like Doncaster.

But they will definitely be in attendance for England's fixtures with immediate effect to try and drum up more support from the stands for Wane and his men after an incredible performance against Samoa in the tournament opener.

The official supporters band are no stranger to performing in other sports and competitions away from England's men. They were regulars throughout the Lionesses' run to European Championship glory earlier this summer, and have also supported England's rugby union and hockey sides in the past.

And they will now lend their support to rugby league over the coming weeks in a bid to turn up the noise in the hosts' bid to win the Rugby League World Cup.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Are the RFWC21 organisers for real? Lower the price of tickets & people will attend & make their own noise.

Yeah, not impressed with that. Went to tonight's game and really enjoyed it, but I can''t afford to spend that kind of money too often.

think this is a p*** take

1st game of the tournament and the opening ceremony / build up ruined
loads of negativity around pre the game
ticket prices too high and showing areas of grounds sold out to prevent purchase (when the are completely empty)

The RFL / RLWC have the opportunity with all the games live on BBC to really show RL for what it is and have full grounds shown live to the free to air audience, and seem to be missing the opportunity, and now this, lets put a band who are nowt to do with RL to build the atmosphere. Surely, get in touch with the cowbell dude from Hudds :) :) (joking)
