The National Lottery’s multimillion-pound rugby league boost praised by veteran winger

Post by josie andrews »

GB rugby league legend Martin Offiah has thanked National Lottery players for helping to raise £9.3million for the sport over the next five years.

“This National Lottery funding will help the grassroots so much,” said Offiah, 56, who scored a record-breaking 470 tries in his 14-year career.

“It’s better for rugby – and the country – to see kids from more diverse backgrounds coming through to contribute to the sport in a major way. It’s about levelling up.”

Offiah spoke as fans get ready to watch the Rugby League World Cup this month and in November – with men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments hosted in stadiums across England.**
**There isn’t really a link as it was an ad I saw for the lottery, but any forthcoming money for our great sport is very welcoming 😊🏉🍒⚪️♥️
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
