Two big-name players told to ‘look for another club’ as Bernard Guasch reveals big changes at Catalans Dragons

Catalans Dragons are set to shake-up their squad ahead of the 2023 season with two big-name players told they can leave.

Speaking to French newspaper the L’independant, club president Bernard Guasch revealed that Josh Drinkwater and Dylan Napa have been told to look for another club.

“They were warned that they could look for a club,” said Guasch. “They are two very good players, but they may no longer be part of the coach’s plans.

We will have to find an arrangement with their club and look for their replacement.”

Drinkwater has been linked with a move to Warrington Wolves in recent weeks, but there has been no confirmation he will leave Catalans until now.

The 30-year-old had a stint at Hull KR in 2019 following a successful first spell at Catalans in which he helped the club win the 2018 Challenge Cup.

Unfortunately, Drinkwater’s time in East Hull didn’t live up to expectations and he returned to the South of France for the 2020 season where he has remained since.

Daryl Powell’s Warrington are believed to be looking for players still, with another playmaker of Drinkwater’s quality still high on the agenda following Gareth Widdop’s exit to Castleford.

Meanwhile, for Napa it is uncertain where his future lies having arrived from the Canterbury Bulldogs ahead of this season.

The 29-year-old, who has represented Queensland Maroons seven times, has a big reputation in the NRL still and could be set for a move back down under having struggled in Perpignan.

A stay in Super League could also be an option but it would mean a club using one of their quota spots to bring in Napa, with the forward likely to be keen on a return home if a viable option presents itself in Australia.
