England head coach Shaun Wane makes just one change to side ahead of Samoa clash

Post by josie andrews »

England meet Samoa once again in London this weekend.

England head coach Shaun Wane has named his 19-man squad for Saturday’s Rugby League World Cup semi final against Samoa. The game takes place at London’s Emirates Stadium with a 2:30 pm kick-off scheduled.

Canterbury Bulldogs prop forward Luke Thompson is back in the fold having not played since the second game against France. He replaces St Helens front rower Matty Lees in the only change to the side.

The five players to miss out are Ryan Hall, Joe Batchelor, Andy Ackers, Mikolaj Oledzki and Lees.

The semi-final will be England's 200th full international, but only the fifth against Samoa, having met for the first time in a World Cup in last month's opener at St James' Park.

England squad: 1. Sam Tomkins, 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Kallum Watkins, 4. Herbie Farnworth, 6. Jack Welsby, 7. George Williams, 8. Tom Burgess, 9. Michael McIlorum, 10. Luke Thompson, 11. Elliot Whitehead, 12. John Bateman, 13. Victor Radley, 14. Dom Young, 15. Morgan Knowles, 17. Mike Cooper, 18. Chris Hill, 20. Mike McMeeken, 21. Marc Sneyd, 24. Kai Pearce-Paul.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
