Catalans Dragons complete deal for Sydney Roosters centre

Post by josie andrews »

The 25-year-old will link up with the Dragons for the 2023 season.

Catalans Dragons are set to sign Adam Keighran from NRL giants Sydney Roosters. Rugby League Live understands the centre will put pen to paper on a deal that will see him join the French club for the 2023 season.

Keighran, 25, has been made available following two seasons at the Roosters and is now set to make the move to Super League to help fill Catalans' centre void. The Dragons have been on the lookout for centres following the departures of both Dean Whare and Samisoni Langi and have now found their man in Keighran.

He first emerged on the scene in the NSW Cup with Penrith Panthers, with his performances earning him a three-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors. There, he made his NRL debut, scoring four tries in nine games.

He then returned to Australia with the Roosters and was a regular under former Dragons coach Trent Robinson in his first season. He played 15 times, scoring four tries including a hat-trick over Canberra Raiders. The Roosters finished fifth.

However, he only played twice in the NRL this season and instead found himself in the NSW Cup with the Bears. He ended the campaign with an impressive eight tries and nine try assists in 17 games, as well as 64 goals. They ended the season third in the table.

Keighran fills the first of three unoccupied quota spots at Stade Gilbert Brutus. Josh Drinkwater's exit to Warrington, now confirmed, leaves them with overseas spots to fill. They have also been linked with another Sydney Roosters player, the New Zealand international Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
