That's great for the NRL but also shows how shocking poorly SL has been managed by the RFL.

Can't blame them for the sheer lack of interest outside the North.

You can. Cricket historically a toffs game did the 2020 and pulled in a new audience. Darts,, boxing all advertised and promoted well, all surpassed their original target Auidence.

The rfl - here's a salary cap that won't increase and we will ignore out min standards for Yorkshire clubs.

It's not even rocket science and only the years of neglected make chances difficult.

Reduce the number of games in a season to make every game actually count. Home and Away per team is enough.

Create a 9s comp, not only does this showcase some players ability and speed it's a quicker game to bring in newer audiences.

Makes match days an Event, work with local councils, get charities clubs work with involved.

Magic weekend at manchester was a good example.

Let's players get sponsorship deals, it's free retail for the sport.

We are well and truly goosed. SL is a feeder competition. Anybody who says that our game is getting better is a liar, it is a mediocre competition that Saints keep winning.

Salary caps rarely work (unless they are so high as to be irrelevant e.g. American Football).

RFL have put the requests of the smaller, traditional clubs ahead of growing the game.

The talent is no longer "seeping" out of the game, it's leaving in a stampede.

The "old" talent has gone to RU (Ford, Farrell, Edwards, Gleeson, Sinfield - and that's off the top of my head).

The younger talent is exiting for the NRL.

Still, at least Castleford win the occasional game on TV eh?

Spot on & include Wakefield in that too.

At one time you could have included Huddersfield & HKR, at least they are trying to recruit good players & HKR have improved their ground 😊

Wakefield are trying to do something with their ground but it needs a lot more doing to it.

I was convinced by the arguments for the salary cap - to even up standards as more species would come if less games were foregone conclusions. Also prevent clubs going busy.

After 20-odd years or so (?), I'm not sure it's achieved these goals.

Step back and look at the Scottish Premiership. Celtic average just under 60,000. Dundee Utd have 6th best average attendance at 8,823, with Ross County 4,287 bottom of the table for gates.

The league is much more unequal than SL has ever been, but it survives.

On another count - player standards - we came closer to matching the Aussies in pre-cap days when half the Wigan team played for England/GB.

We'll never compete with the Aus salary cap. But there may be millionaires out there who would fund a club (or 2 or 3 of them?), but are put of by the limitations of the cap.

So my vote is to scrap it.

Koukash being one. SL is at Championship level compared to the NRL.

It appears that all is not well down under. The original hype about a huge increase in the Aussie salary cap seems to have been based on more money, but covering an extra team and an extra league!

Maybe some more familiar with NRL can explain more clearly.
