Wigan Warriors have joined forces with Orrell Rugby Union Club to support the Doddie 555 bike ride with over 350 riders set to pass through Edge Hall Road, Orrell, the former training base for Wigan Warriors on Friday 10th February.

The gates of Edge Hall Road will open once more for a very special rugby event. On 10th February between 9:30am and 1:30pm over 350 riders supporting the DoddieCup555 bike ride from the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to Murrayfield in Edinburgh will pass through the gates as the halfway stop on their massive 555 mile bike ride raising money for the Doddie Foundation and research into MND.

There will be physios on hand from Edge Hill College, bike mechanics from Gearing Up Wigan, food and refreshments plus live music to keep their spirits up and their legs going.

The public are welcome to come along and support the teams; a huge cheer, clap them into Edge Hall Road as they arrive (or leave) – or just throw some loose change into the collection boxes. Every penny helps the research into this devastating disease.

DoddieAid 2023 is organised by the former Rugby Union captain for Scotland and the British and Irish Lions Rob Wainwright to help raise monies into research of this devastating disease and to keep the profile of MND in the public eye. Rob is a former teammate of the late Doddie Weir and founded Doddie Aid three years ago. To date, the mass participation event has raised around £2 million for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, with the foundation itself ploughing around £8 million into MND research in the last five years.

Please come along and show your support for this amazing bunch of people. A team of riders from Orrell RUFC are also taking part and you can donate to the DoddieCup555 HERE.

Wigan Warriors Chief Executive Kris Radlinski said: “To allow the use of our Edge Hall Road facility is the very least that we can do. The work that various MND charities around the country are currently doing is incredible. On the back of the inspiring stories of Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow, along with the heroic efforts of Kevin Sinfield, the rugby community once again has showed why it is so well respected.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
