Super League Attendances: Three games record amazing attendances

Post by josie andrews »

It has been another sensational weekend of Super League action.

It all started with a tight affair at Huddersfield Giants as they hosted Super League and World Champions St Helens at the John Smith’s Stadium.

A game between two high quality teams who execute the basics, it was a tight tussle edged by the Champions.

On Friday night, Wigan Warriors showed the class of their stars to turn around a 16-8 deficit into a 20-16 win.

Elsewhere, Warrington Wolves continued their sublime start to the season as Daryl Powell inflicted more misery on his former side the Castleford Tigers in a 38-0 win.

Castleford’s local rivals Wakefield Trinity didn’t have it much better as they lost 34-6 to Hull KR.

On Saturday we were treated to perhaps the game of the season as Leeds Rhinos pulled off a sensational comeback to defeat the previously unbeaten Catalans Dragons at home whilst newly promoted Leigh Leopards won away at Hull FC.

It was a brilliant week for attendances too.

Three games had crowds of over 10,000 in the shape of Hull FC vs Leigh, Wigan vs Salford and Leeds vs Catalans.

The game at Headingley approached 15,000 and was one of the highest attendances for a Leeds-Catalans clash.

Meanwhile, Wigan’s attendance at Salford was a 700 increase on last season for the same fixture.

Huddersfield Giants vs St Helens
Attendance: 4,684

Castleford Tigers vs Warrington Wolves
Attendance: 7,348

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull KR
Attendance: 4,705

Wigan Warriors vs Salford Red Devils
Attendance: 11,497

Leeds Rhinos vs Catalans Dragons
Attendance: 14,321

Hull FC vs Leigh Leopards
Attendance: 10,952

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

It's the crowds that don't get revealed and those in L1 that I worry about. Super League ones are ok.
I have supported Wigan RL since the late 80s. First game was a cup tie v Barrow. Also a fan of football and Speedway. Have a varied taste in music.
