Hull KR swoop for Corey Hall in shock swap deal with Wakefield Trinity

Post by josie andrews »

Hull KR are closing in on the immediate signing of Wakefield Trinity star Corey Hall, Hull Live understands.

The utility back is believed to be on the verge of signing a long-term contract with the Robins in a deal that will see Will Dagger head the other way and join Super League's basement side in a swap deal. No further transfer fee is thought to be involved.

Hall, 20, has played 30 times for Wakefield, scoring nine tries since joining from Leeds Rhinos ahead of the 2022 season. It was only seven months ago the hot prospect penned a new deal with the West Yorkshire outfit. However, Rovers are understood to have been long-term admirers of Hall and, having previously attempted to sign him in the past 18 months, they have finally got their man.

But it will bring an end to Dagger's time at Craven Park. The club's longest-serving player, it appeared unlikely that he would have a future at the club beyond the end of the season, when his contract expired.

Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e has developed at fullback and with Lachlan Coote still at the club, the deal not only secures Dagger's long-term future but gives him a platform to play regularly for the rest of the season.

Trinity's search for a fullback has been well-documented, with approaches for Jamie Shaul and Luke Hooley both turned down in recent weeks. Dagger will leave Craven Park with the utmost respect from Willie Peters, his playing group and the fanbase.

With Willie Peters sweating on the fitness of Ryan Hall and Tom Opacic for Friday's meeting with Leeds Rhinos, Corey Hall may come straight into Rovers' 21-man squad and could make his Hull KR debut against his former employers, on the basis paperwork is completed before the registration.

Dagger, who joined Hull KR from Warrington Wolves in 2018, only managed 51 games because of numerous factors. The 24-year-old, who hails from West Yorkshire, played second fiddle to Coote and his predecessor Adam Quinlan for most of his Rovers career. Numerous long-term injuries, including a ruptured Achilles last season, cut down the number of outings he made in red and white.

Hall is one of the hottest prospects in the Super League at the moment, and this move is a statement of intent for the Robins. He has made 34 Super League appearances, scoring eight tries.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
