Warrington Wolves youngster Riley Dean closes in on Australia move
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

What I can’t understand is why the NRL, who have, supposedly, the best players in the world need to keep coming to take our young up coming players

Because they can. Even if they sign 10 and 1 or 2 turn out ok for them that's a success. And their is no supposedly about It Josie. The NRL is head and shoulders above SL. That's just like saying why do Wigan sign players from other clubs if we supposedly have good players ourselvesjosie andrews wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:11 am What I can’t understand is why the NRL, who have, supposedly, the best players in the world need to keep coming to take our young up coming players![]()

I am not sure it is. There has always been a transfer market in RL within this country but it has never worked in the way we see players being enticed down under. In this country unless a club is strapped for cash like Salford you have next to no chance of prizing a clubs best players away (junior or senior). Clubs here can make an enquiry about another clubs player but it is by no means inevitable it will result in a transfer. Saints would just laugh at Wigan if we made a move for Welsby or one of their top rated youngsters but they probably have no chance of resisting an approach from the NRL.Blackpool_Pie wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:29 amBecause they can. I think the NRL can speculate a lot more now due to their salary cap and teams like DaveO said wouldn't be willing to improve their opposition but could supply another comp
I know the NRL is clear the better competition and i dont argue that personally but lets not forget theyve imported some dross too - even before the salary cap increases
Richie Mathers?, Dan Sarginson? i mean these were only ok Superleauge players, even Josh Hodgson who turn out great wasnt on any top teams radar here

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

If welsby played for Wakefield we could turn his head. He would want to play at higher level. This is the reason why the NRL can attract SL players. Just the same as when we used to sign other clubs players like Henry Paul etcDaveO wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 12:20 pmI am not sure it is. The NRL is superior and only takes the best players from super league. Similarly they don't lose their best players to Super League

Money that's what it boils down to ergo the NRL is the better comp.
Be interesting to see if Welsby goes at some point I don't think he will but we shall see
