David Storey

Sad to see the death of David Storey. This Sporting Life is the classic film about RL and of course, the game shots were filmed at Wakefield-playing Wigan- with cardboard cut outs to fill out the stands! Storey was an interesting guy-he signed for Leeds for £400 cash + £400 in the future. His dad earned £600 a year down the pit. As well as playing for Leeds he studied fine art at the Slade in London. When one of the plays he wrote received poor reviews he literally biffed the critics-although as Michael Billington said, it was all an exaggeration-just a cuff round the head really. Pure RL. RIP

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
