Rooney retires from England duty

Post by josie andrews »

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

TBH for England to move on he had to go. Still a great influential player but if he played for my club I'd be made up as well.
Could put more life in his legs, wish Lockers would do the same.

A truly great player.
England's best player since Tom Finney.

A poll depends on how old you are and how good your memory is from those long gone games you were at.

Finney played both wings. He could dribble with the right foot and shoot with the right foot. He could also dribble with the left foot and shoot with the left foot. When he played centre forward he was the oppositions worst nightmare.

Charlton often dropped deep although he was a forward. Those passes from outside his pen area to the wingman were 50 yards and dropped on his boot laces. His shots and goals are legendary.

Finney was as fast as Rooney if not faster but Charlton did not have that blistering pace.

All three brilliant players. Only saw Charlton play for England. He was MOM by a mile. 2nd half the Italian crowd were chanting his name.

Might have been celebrating his international retirement? Paid now for less work!
