It's an asset not expenditure and an appreciating one at that.

The money has not gone out of the door, it's been effectively redistributed.

Rather this than spend on benefits for the lazy and "cba generation".
It is not the government's job to be into real estate speculation any more than it should be hoarding pots of gold in case the price of gold goes up.

cba generation? Can't be Arsed I presume you mean? Don't know any of those myself. I do know someone who lives from hand to mouth despite being in work full time due to low pay. You know the "just managing" the party you support was supposed to champion but hasn't.
Never mind this penthouse. Todays Daily Telegraph says the Foreign Office has 85 properties costing more than £5 million each scattered around the world. I do not suppose that it is just the Tory government of the last 8 years who bought them all either Dave, I suspect that your peoples party bought its fair share as well.

So Dave you would rather the Govt hoarded its gold reserves. Perhaps you should have spoken to Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer when he sold the majority of the UK gold reserves and trasferred the money into euros. Just one of the many hair brained ideas he had although I remain eternally grateful that it was Blair who wanted us to adopt the Euro and this led Brown ensuring we did not, think where we would be now if Blair had wanted to keep the £, Brown would have had us in the euro in double quick time and todays problems would be 10x worse
Vote for Macrons idea to force a WTO brexit on us next week, I am.
