Would you be offended if a stand was named after Stan Jackson ?

Got anything else on your mind that isn't about the Warriors? If you do, this is the place to post.

My argument is that he did this by moving Warriors into his football ground.
That's all well and good, it's history. But I ask again, does it have any relevance to the situation NOW, in 2007 rather than 1997? When the stadium was first proposed, it could be nothing other than a football stadium because DW didn't have any other teams. He now has both teams, and treats both equally. You've not given any evidence to suggest otherwise, and his actions in recent years - spending money where appropriate and within the spending limits imposed by the Rugby Football League for our team - shows us that he's serious about our team as well as yours.

Although if your view were correct, would it not be considered embarassing for the "lodgers" to have higher average gates in "your" new stadium than you were getting:

Attendances since JJB Stadium opened prior to Latics getting into Premiership.

2000/1: Latics 6774; 2001 Warriors 11334
2001/2: Latics 5771; 2002 Warriors 10436
2002/3: Latics 7283; 2003 Warriors 10387
2003/4: Latics 9530; 2004 Warriors 12434
2004/5: Latics 11155; 2005 Warriors 13894

2001/2 we've both got a new stadium, but Latics can barely muster half the crowd we were getting... It makes one wonder why DW would bother building such a big stadium for his football team...

Athletic:

2004/2005 Average Crowd = 11,155
2005/2006 Average Crowd = 20,904

Thats about an 80% increase over 3 months during summer when Athletic got into the Premiership. Glory hunting/bandwagon fans? Add together 4-5,000 crowds for top premiership teams... so say about 15,000 Wigan fans, some of which go to see Rooney, Henry, Lampard and Savage (forget him actually). Wigan warriors gets 15,000 without any away fans against Harlequins and its a lesser popular sport than football generally.

Correct me if i am wrong but wasnt the agreement from the council that in order for the planning permission to go through the stadium had to be a multi purpose stadium.
I seem to remember reading this poss on here.

No objections at all. It is a shared stadium after all. The only problem is that whearas we are steeped in history and would struggle to choose between a long list of luminaries Latics have no history whatsoever and are consigned to picking names of people who used to wash the kit when they were in the Cheshire Combination League. Sad but true.

They did win an Auto Windscreens shield sometime in the past though, we could name a stand after their stand-in goalkeeper at the time.

No changing names of stands, it's unreal. If we were to change the name of the stand, it should change to commerate the town of Wigan, not a dole pensioner who scaed all his money to watch a spherical ball being kicked.

George Formby Stand
Sir Ian Mckellen Stand

Or it could reflect the towns rich musical heritage:

The Richard Ashcroft Stand
The Kym Marsh Stand
The George Formby Stand
The Limahl Stand

Could any other town beat that for line up?

Pooles
Heatons
Greggs
Galloways

Or... we could change each stand name:

West Stand > North Stand
North Stand > East Stand
East Stand > South Stand
South Stand > West Stand

for a laugh
