Relegation Pointless??

Post by Southern_Warrior »

Hi guys

Just a point that was raised on rlfans. Assuming that Salford will be given a franchise in 2009 (only team in Manchester and a new stadium etc) what will be the point in relegating them if they finish bottom this year?
Their squad will have to be disbanded due to the NL1 salary cap meaning they will have to start all over again in 2009. Surely this would weaken the competion and could result in Salford taking a few years to become competitive again. Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on this?

i still beleive the wAY FORWARD IS A 14 TEAM STRUCTURE ,LEAVE SALFORD WERE THEY ARE ,PUT CAS UP(KEEP THEM QUIET)and promote the winners of nrl 1 probably widnes and you will then have all your franchise any way and a far league all play each other twice + all get a extra game at the milenium that means were 1 game short on this season. But i beleive the caRDIFF FIXTURE SHOULD BE DRAWN OUT OF A HAT

it serves no purpose, however ask cas or widnes if they want to stay in NL1 to help salford out!

Salford knew the rules at at the start of the season, they finnish lowest non froggie team they go down, and as with all relegated teams they are disbanded, what they should be doing now is trying to tie thier key players down to contracts, but it appears that the palyers are jumping ship judging by all the rumours

personally i like salford, thier chairman is a decent bloke who wears his heart on his sleave,
i just hope that thier stadium still goes ahead, its gone very very queit on that front last i heard there was no support for the retail units that were helping to off set the cost, so they may be in bigger trouble than we thought

Yes.

Salford should not be too disheartened IF they get relegated this season... with their new stadium getting ready there's no doubt they will get a franchise for 2009. They can save some money while they're at it also.

BUT, it depends whether or not the RFL bring in a new team from France or Cumbria etc...

reckon 16 teams for the franchise will work well.

I agree 100%.
Problem is, why can't the plonkers running the game see it?
