Optimistic

Post by Wigan_forever1985 »

I know we are only 2 games in, but i have to sy im very optimisitic for us this season. I think one of the things we struggles with in past years is we only won games when we performed really well! (and even then we still lost sometimes). What makes teams like stains and leeds so good is their ability to win games with sub-par performances, and that seems to be something we have aquired this season. 2 out of 2 games now we haven't performed half as good as we know we good but we have 4 points in the bag and with leeds the only unbeaten status in the league :)
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

under-par Hull or not we need to improve... another substandard performance in relation to expectation/ last season mus not happen next friday or Hull will beat us in a scrappy match.

I too am optimistic, been saying im waiting for 2008 now the driftwood have left. we are light, yes, but we can cope... IMO we have the 5th best squad in SL behind skins, leeds, bradford and wolves...

We shouldnt worry too much this season. Fielden/Hock wll be on fire wanting the world cup plane seat. Lockers inevitable he will go and end up top 3 tacklers this season as last.

As fans we need to be patient. we have new players, young players... we dont have connolly or offiah or make plays from andy G on 10 metres and finishing the moved in the hands of Offiah 80 metres down the field, new supporters may be frustrated but top 6? easy. Challenge cup - a final is possible. Just need to win the wakefields, kr's and cats... 'easy' points.

sorry the two games with have played have been against two clubs who are predicted to be on the bottom of the league i think i will reserve my thoughts on how good we are when we meet the bigger and better clubs.

Much happier. We are one of only 2 clubs unbeaten. As Trent says an ugly win is better than a nice loss. We are gradually learning to be patient and our decision making is improving. Had we really fired v Cas we could have destroyed them. I think we had 8 try scoring opportunities in that first half alone.

The big thing for me is these youngsters are getting better and better. McIlorum, Goulding, Prescott all look like they deserve to be there and add something to the team.

I both cases it was the first half that was sub-par, and altough i disagree with heydude over it mattering about playing the two bottom teams, I do thing we need to prove consistancy, over the season and over the 80 minutes. Rather than occasinal patches of brilliance and then back to playing down to our opponents level that we often see. Wigan usually play best against the good teams and it is the Castlefords, Quins and Catalans that we've really got to concerntrate on. Winning at saint Helens and beating castleford at home give the same number of points. It dosn't even matter if it is tight, as long as we come out on top we'll do well in what looks to be a very tight season- perhaps more than last year. And I think we've got a really solid squad this season. Top teams have their averarge players and their superstars, but every position at wigan is fairly solid. Excpecting good things this season.

too true glens but we have got to compete with all the clubs and my rule of thumb is how we perform against leeds, bradford, saints and maybe warrington truthfully we should have blown cas away because there are a bad team and will not cope well this season but with no relegation they can look towards the future not this season.

No SL teams are "bad" it's very tough competition in NL1 as well and cas have done well to win. As for blowing them away, Cas had quite a good game. You should'nt excpect to hammer teams just because they've just been premoted.

Has it not been the case that in recent years it has been our efforts v so called lesser teams rather than the top ones that has let us down

Very much so. We beat the GF winners 3 games out of 4, but kept losing to the likes of HKR & Quins who both finished in the bottom 4.
