Positions Needed
These are my thoughts on what positions we need to strengthen and which players need to be dispensed of regardless of contracts etc. because there simply not up to and never will be top class and wigan should never ever settle for 2nd class which they have done for the last 6 seasons(at least).
MATHERS not quick enough and has terrible positional sense was at fault for two tries away at bradford, plus quite a few more during the season so far ,not big enough for the modern game.
GOULDING not big enough to be a modern centre steady player but will never be any better than that.
COLBON see Goulding, i quite like the lad but seems to be a forward stuck in a backs body.
FIELDEN my patience has finally run out with him after Bulls away ,seems to be more bothered at bullying other props than concentrating on getting the team some go forward .
O'LOUGHLIN is he good is he bad the jury's still out after all this time, no doubting his defensive capability's but what about ball in hand ,he's a loose forward time he started playing like one .
O'CARROLL great heart and attitude just not big enough sorry,we all know it deep down.
BAILEY never the quickest but seems to be fast developing into another Fletcher with no pace but at least Fletch could hit a hole and go through it sometime .

Re: Positions Needed
What about a fitness and conditioning coach???
I see Quentin Pongia has qualifications to do this now.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Positions Needed
I understand were your going with us needing a new conditioning coach but lets get an expert in who has spent years educating himself and gaining the necessary experience in doing this highly important job rather than appointing an ex player with 2 years experience , again its about not settling for second best.
Re: Positions Needed
Steve Hampson has the qualifications
Appollo Perilinni at Saints is their conditioning/fitness coach.
Quinten would do a good job at Wigan he played rugby as it should be played and his career had been cut short by an enthustic journalist and a certain player .

There is a cracking conditioner just come surplus to requirements at Whitehaven, due to change of coach. A fully qualified guy, ex international athlete, who could get this squad fit and ready. His name is Paul Taylor, and he wouldnt cost an arm and a leg.

Re: Positions Needed
Maybe somebody should email the club asking them wether there are plans to strengthen the backroom staff.

Re: Positions Needed
The original point i was making is we are settling for players who just aren't good enough for the most famous rugby league club in the world, our young kids coming through are all robotic clones of each other it's like wigan have a template for each position and any natural talent is getting coached out of them, could you ever see us bringing a kid through that was like Danny Mcguire,Sam and Luke Burgess,Atkins of Wakefield,Clough from over the hill,Eastman...... the list goes on all natural gifted players who can adapt to any situation.
