BRYN HARGREAVES hopes to doom Wigan tonight as part of his pay-back for them dumping him.
The St Helens forward was shocked to be axed by the Warriors two years ago when they made their world record swoop for Stuart Fielden.
Hargreaves, 22, was gutted to be told he was no longer needed and would have to go out on loan to National League side Leigh.
The prop vowed to prove Wigan wrong and since Saints moved in for him, Hargreaves' career has soared again.
He said: "The situation with Wigan did damage my confidence a lot. I hadn't done anything wrong and it could have knocked me back a couple of years.
"It's tough when you are young and something like that happens. I wanted to stay in Super League but Wigan wouldn't let me and so I had no choice in joining Leigh.
"But deep down I knew I was better than that level so my focus was on performing well enough to be picked up."
Saints boss Daniel Anderson signed him a few months later and Hargreaves believes it's the best thing that ever happened.
He added: "I went back a bit with what happened at Wigan. But since joining Saints my game has come on a lot."
Hargreaves hopes to inflict a fourth defeat of the season on his old team tonight at Knowsley Road.
Victory for Saints will win them the League Leaders Trophy and a vital home tie in the play-offs.
Defeat for Wigan will doom them, if Bradford win their game at Castleford, to a tricky away game at Catalans Dragons in the play-offs.
He won't be the first and very much doubt he will be the last
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
