Wayne Bennett has stood down from his role as assistant to New Zealand rugby league coach Stephen Kearney.
Bennett, who helped the Kiwis to victory in the Rugby League World Cup final against Australia last year, has told the New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) he wants to concentrate on his new job as coach of St George Illawarra.
The former Brisbane Broncos mentor will be replaced by ex-Manly and Souths winger Tony Iro.
NZRL chairman Ray Haffenden says he was forever grateful for the fantastic contribution Bennett made to the team.
Kearney says Bennett was a tremendous help to him personally and to everyone else in the squad.

Bennett stands down as NZ assistant
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Has he got a visa? There might be a job going over here soon. :conf:
Re: Bennett stands down as NZ assistant
If he ever decided to come over hear he would be the dream coach, he is the coach in Aus that others look towards for inspiration when coaching. He is a true legend and at this moment in time we are an ideal option for him, under achieving sleeping giant on the verge of the abyss(sounds like a movie trailer). Would he come? I dont know but it would be a great move for the club.Sutty wrote:Has he got a visa? There might be a job going over here soon. :conf:

He wouldnt come due to him not wanting to relocate his disabled children he cares for. Also doubt he would as he is Veivers brother in law and if Noble goes I think Veivers will go also.
