Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
IL said he would not pay out money on transfer fees!
There is one hour to go before we need to register him. we all know if the wigan site goes down we have signed him.
How long does it take to set up an off shore bank account like saints have?

Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
any news yet??? only 20 mins left? if he was at the DW
stadium this morning then we obviously have got him, i for one hope him all the best whatever, i'd rather he be playing for us than against us, he's quality IMO, fingers crossed

Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
To be honest I think IL wants him signed for the Saints game and is not overly concerned about Barrow. However, he will wan t to announce it SAP to get extra fans through the turnstiles v Saints and yo allow Martin to train with his new team.

Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
Wigan / Wire may compromise and opt for 1 player + cash. We could also send some players out on loan.

Whatever happened to Billy McGinty's pineapple?
Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
It Wire cup tie Gleeson I cannot see IL going through with the deal. There is a lot of brinkmanship in this move. Wire need to sell Gleeson to stop him walking off scot free in 2010, Wigan want Gleeson for the rest of 2009.

thats cos this thread is where the media is getting all its info from!pieater-alex wrote:10,000 views on this thread.
I don't think we've ever had a thread quite like this.
If Wire want cash then we have hit a problem. Paying the transfer fee would not be the issue it would be offloading players to fit him under the cap hence why Wigan have offered Goulding and Mathers.
Wish list: Billy Slater please!!!!!!!!
Re: Wigan to sign Gleeson?
I don't know what Gleeson earns but I bet it isn't peanuts.
If a club signs a player mid-season his salary cap value is his full-season value.
That is if club signs a player in June (half way through the salary cap year) on £5000 a month thus paying him £30,000 he actually counts as £60,000 on the salary cap.
You can read this in the salary cap rules on the RFL web site.
Now I bet Gleeson can command more than that so whatever we pay him we get a hit of another 4 months of his wages on the cap.
If IL was correct when he said we only had £20K left on the cap then that hoit alone would easily use that up, we have to ship players out and they need to be on a fair old whack.
Now if Goulding was offered to Wire and he was on a decent-ish wage here there is no guarantee he would get the same at Wire. So he may as well say no to the move because if he stays not only does he keep his wage but Gleeson can't come and be one more player in front of him.
