All the field officials and most of the players were unaware of the fact that the siren sounded. Sean O’Loughlin, the Wigan captain, confirmed in a conversation with Richard Silverwood that he too had not heard the siren.
The Match Commissioner is not wired up to the field officials and therefore would not be able to inform them.

Stuart Cummings
Match Officials Director
Match Officials Department
I telephoned him directly on the above number but he couldn't hear me.
“Usually the fans that abuse players like Sam have never done anything of any note themselves. They’re nobodies, whose greatest claim to fame is abusing someone who has, and these so-called ‘Eddie the Experts’ pretend to their mates that they have."
I would have thought that the Ref, being the guy who decides when play starts, finishes etc. should have been very alert, at that stage of the game, to the fact that the hooter was about to go. Doesn't he have 2 watches?
What a load of codswallop!!! Typical Cummings. The man is useless. Go now.
Question: is the first time the Ref has complained about "not hearing the hooter"? If not, it makes a jackass out of both of them.
I agree, the Club should respond.
