Sorry. I wasn't commenting on his personal situation.

My post was perhaps to suggest that a Wigan lad was the last decent coach we had!!

Never mate. To be honest most even backed Millward, me included. We had one poster that did not. The forum received regular posts from Mike Gregs nephew and several members did a fund raising hike up Ben Nevis IIRC.

Noble was supported from the start. Last season the forum split between pro and anti Noble. This season I would say it is mainly anti Noble.

I do not think anybody can take any joy from the present state of playing affairs. Murrayfield raised hopes.

warrior till i die wrote:as rads has stated in his book there is definately more of a culture problem at the club. therefore we need someone who lives wigan rugby, someone who knows what it feels like to win a trophy for this great club, this type of person could get us to where we want to be and instil some belief back in the club.
I agree. I've said before that I think our squad is not too far off being able to compete at the highest level. We don't really need a tactically innovative coach, yet, just one who can get the best out of the players we have - which means:

(a) getting them motivated consistently
(b) getting team selection right
(c) intruducing genuine competition for places
(d) Working to the players strengths, rather than trying to fit them into a mould
(e) sticking with tactics that have proved successful already.

Unfortunately, IL is by far the biggest Shareholder (90% I think) so he could effectively veto it. However, it would get maximum publicity (bad) and it may just force his hand.
I am going to write to IL in the stongest possible terms at my sadness seeing this once great Club reduced to this level.
I am 67 years old and I started watching Wigan in 1952.

well said sir

if only IL would take note of what we say on here

he should put his hand in his pocket and pay Noble off now put Shawn Wayne in charge until end of this season

beacuse surely to GOD he as signed some one else for next season

CP we are thinking of going up Skafel Pike in the wk after the Leeds Home game & prob try and raise some more money for the Mike Gregory Trust & the Motorneurons Charity that helped him and the family. A few of the lads on here are up for it. It would be part fundraiser part reunion, but its open to all who would like to come along.

A good coach uses his skills, experience and profession to:-

"direct, instruct and train a person or group of people, with the aim to achieve some goal or develop specific skills. There are many ways to coach, types of coaching and methods to coaching. Direction may include motivational speaking. Training may include seminars, workshops, and supervised practice."

Not one of us on here would want Nobby to lose his job, as we ourselves wouldn't. He seems a good guy, has a family and needs the same as all of us do. But his impending dismissal will result in a good pay off, and I'm sure the opportunity to sell a book, make money out of his ability to talk rugby and if brave/lucky enough, the opportunity to prove himself somewhere else. As I've said before, IL has not got where he is, and that's a better place (financially) than most of us, without making tough decisions, even with nice guys.

I have faith in IL and MH, as proven professionals in their fields, and the way in which they've given Nobby support and the opportunity can not be underestimated. Free of ML and DW. They will not risk their futures on the back of supporting a good guy forever, and will I believe make the right decsions very soon.

I personally don't think Shaun Wane is the right man for the lead role, his lack of preparation and professionalism as a player was not good enough to support the guts/talent that he obviously had in abundance. We need the right man to follow other good guys, as we did in the mid 80's, and things will move on very quickly.

A good coach gets the best out of the person/team he coaches, and I don't believe that this is currently happening, by some distance. Results are what count, and no one can be of the opinion that the current or previous season's results are anywhere near good enough.

I'm afraid that more short term pain will happen, and probably more totally humiliating and costly experiences (I travel a 240 mile round trip from Rugby to experience them!) but I honestly believe that the clouds will soon clear, after IL has executed his plans. He won't rush, we've done that before and it's not worked, he WILL get it right, and the current leadership team will not be part of that.

Rant over, going to say a prayer at the feet of the Webb Ellis statue!

You rather contradict yourself with those two paragraphs, bearing in mind the way the Reserves are playing, and the results Wane is getting with them.

The problem any of us has whilst venting our feelings about the coach on this website, is that people at the club (ie, IL) will not listen.
The only way they will listen is if there was a mass exodus from the games or some kind of fans protest outside the stadium.
However, firstly you wont get a mass exodus because the majority of fans are season ticket holders, and have already paid, so wont want to miss any games, and secondly I believe that the average Wigan fan now has resigned themselves to being a second rate super league club Im so sad to say, and will accept sub standard performances because that is what we are used to.So accept that our future looks bleak, no amount of "sack the coach" will make any difference, we are now resigned to watching "rubbish" week in week out so sad to say

From BriH

Great response! Thanks everybody. I just hope there are some Ordinary Shareholders out there who will rise to the challenge.
I honestly believe that the only option for IL now is to say"Goodbye" to BN, appoint Shaun Wayne as interim Coach (Warrington appointed Jimmy Lowes remember and he had initial success until they got Tony Smith). I don't believe that IL went all the way to Aussie just to look at players, do some networking and look at the possibility of Club sharing. I am sure he must have also looked at some Coaches down under for next season - I know I would.
It's a hard world and sometimes hard decisions have to be made.
So, to the previous thread, never, never accept mediocrity!!!
As President Obama said (or something like it) "Time for change and change we can".
