I remember that. Northey made a huge song and dance about the challenge on Smyth but was substituted shortly afterwards when Scott Quinnell threw a huge right hook at him on the floor that missed him by a couple of inches - true to his cowardly nature; Northey disappeared from the field.
He liked to have a go at wingers (it was him who hurt Offiah's back in a Good Friday match) but didn't fancy his chances against other props!
Morley has always been a cheap shot merchant and WHEN someone does get seriously hurt by him (or someone imitating him - like Elima did on Lomax) then the gutless disciplinary have only got themselves to blame. By failing to ban Morley and Carvell then are sending out the wrong message to the players.

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?
Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

The SL show on BBC today highlighted H's tenacity at holding onto the ball.
They showed it a few times but no comment on the technique Morely used. I was surprised because the more I see it the more it looks like Morely deliberately swings his arm to strike Hansen. He pivots his body to bring his stiff arm around with force.
It isn't a shoulder charge and it isn't a tackle - he is using his arm to hit the player and is seemingly getting away with it because his arm is down by his side and not raised.
Exactly right Dave and people turn a blind eye to it in part because somehow Moz is seen as a good guy, a tough guy when the reality is nothing could be further from the truth. The young player who came into the game was fearless and fair but when he felt the pain that it cause him he decided to adopt any method possible illegal in the main as long as he did not have to suffer. Does that make him a good guy? a tough guy?
It's a cheap shot this 'tackle' of his. It's not a shoulder charge by any means but doesnt look quite like a blatant stiff arm. From the ref's viewpoint it would look like a shoulder hit. The point of contact on Hansen isn't the shoulder but the top-bicep point (freeze superleague show at 15-52) making it a clear cut swinging arm. I hope the RFL decide to look at this retrospectively.
The only justice will be at some point Morley will dislocate and damage his shoulder severely if he puts more of them in.

I did just that and have posted a couple of screen shots on rlfans in a similar thread to this.
For some reason everyone on there thinks its legal. I think it started as a bit of a love-in with Morely because we won and people were making some sort of magnanimous gesture and bigging up Hansens toughness. Didn't want to be seen to be moaning.
I have pointed out why it wasn't legal and it's as plain as day if you watch the iPlayer from the reverse angle Morely uses a stiff arm to hit Hansen.

You can see from the first he is winding his arm up. watch the video and it actually looks worse than these two shots convey.
I think I need an alias on rlfans as I bet if anyone else had posted it there wouldn't be a queue forming to disagree!
Dave
Excellent Stills Dave which clearly shows the illegal offence.
I was guilty of thinking Morley wasnst such a bad guy, as I looked up to him as a tough Brit capable of matching it with the Aussies.
With this evidence and the debarcle in the Wire v cas game, he is just a blatant thug getting worse in age.
There is enough evidence for the RFL to act and stop him using this so called tackling style, however, two hits too many before action has been properly taken.
