Holding Down at The WCC
Re: Holding Down at The WCC
The storm were minus some key players too, Cronk especially. I do think they should move the WCC abroad either to Dubai or Aus. The weather conditions at this time of the year are never very good.

Personally, I dont give a toss who won in this game.
I do however, get angry in that these finals and international tournaments are all refereed to suit those in-breeds from Australia.
We have a British referee controlling this game, yet it suited the way Melbourne wanted to play.
OK, the Storm were very clever and tactical on how they went about it, but the man in the middle played along with it.
Referee's in Australia go out of their way to help their own in big matches, so why cant we.

How many supporters of other clubs in the last few season's, have seen Leeds get away not only with blatant lying on in the tackle, but also other offences like forward passes, offside, obstuction etc. You name it and Leeds have got away with it.
How many supporters have seen Sinfield disputing decisions with the referee and getting his own way!
Leeds have always had the rub of the green and on Sunday when they did not get their own way, they started their usual niggling.

But when do our referees stick up for our sides like the Aussie pitch in for their teams.
Lets face it, it could be us next season facing a Silverwood like last Sunday.
Would that be good for Wigan Warriors.
Re: Holding Down at The WCC
Absolutely it was a masterclass. Massively boring but I don't blame them under those circumstances. But all the talk of international or Australian rules and the like is a joke, its nothing like that in the NRL. All Silverwood had to do was make the calls quicker, Melbourne would have obliged (on the same principle of playing to the whistle), and the game would have been far more interesting.
Also its about time they turned the refs volume down during general play. Don't they realise it totally irritates people and serves no purpose?

Re: Holding Down at The WCC
the last comment about 2 refs is very valid in this argument.
The NRL have been used to being marshalled this way for 2 years. They are bound to take advantage of only having one ref to marshall the 10m, play of ball etc.
if the ref doesn't call they dont move - simple, Leeds should have done the same.
the solution would have been for the ref (irrelevant of who it was) to clear the play of the ball a couple of seconds quicker, as long as he does it for both teams consistently.
I dont have any sympathy with Leeds re the referee as they are the past masters in our league as slowing the play of the ball down. Sinfield comes in 3rd man, lays on top, moves away when the ref calls, enabling the 2nd man to move and so on, only a couple of seconds but enough to get the defensive line set and slow the attacking team down
when they played us last year, we had a strong ref who stopped them from slowing down and penalised them. The outcome - we played well, we beat them, they niggled and rightly got penalised, and niggled some more

Nail right on the head Pieman, a strong referee who Stopped them slowing the game down and penalised them.the pieman wrote:the last comment about 2 refs is very valid in this argument.

I dislike Leeds like you do, but its about time referees got on a par with each other.
