How many times has a close game of RL come away with a score sheet that dosn't tell the whole story because one team has run away with it in the last 10 - 15 minutes of a half, due to tired legs?
One way of resolving the situation is, of course, to continue to raise fitness levels. But people, there is another way...........
How would people feel if the game was not two halfs, but four 20 minute quarters with 5 minute intervals and unlimited interchanges. There would never be those awful dead periods where teams fall on their feet or run away with games. Pressure could be maintained with fresh legs being injected into a side and so forth.
This is an idea well and truly pinchd from Ice Hockey, which is nothing more than RL on ice. It works well for them (they have threee 20 minute periods). If the men at the top need ideas to inject a party atmsphere and fun into our game they could do worse than look toward Ice Hockey.

No!!!! there is no need to change the product so dramatically. I can see the need for the odd small improvement every now and again but nothing like this. If you look at stats in close games that have "unfair" outcomes then more often than not the stats confirm how one sided these games actually are. R.L. is a game of stratergy and part of that stratergy is to wear down your opposition. What is wrong with the product at the moment? Crowds are on the increase we have removed our main competition (football) by moving to summer and I for one dont want to see weaker teams given a better chance of winning if they cant compete for the full eighty minutes. Rugby League is a ground breaking sport not a follower!

Whoa there jonboy! Didn't mean to upset you. I agree, there is very little wrong with our game, I was just knocking some ideas about.
would be good though sir, hhmm. sir, all that pace, hoh sir, and that action, hhmm sir, hoh, look at that ball play.
Anyways, see you tonight, a-screaming and a-hollering, a-dancin' and a-stompin. Remember, where you find bulls, you find plenty of bulls***!!!!

Re: Re: Re: Time Please, Gentl...
don`t know whether it would work in Rl.
i think now, the way it is it shows the fitness of each player & each team. if scorelines are lopsided because of this, then the opposing team should work more on there fitness levels & endurance.
it does work in some sports though & maybe if you had the 4 quarters but not the break in between that may work, but u never know.. can`t knock the system cos i used to play american football & that was 4 quarters... which i thought worked well in that game.
anyhow yes i do hope we put out a good showing tonight! i`m gonna be leaving wolvo in bout 1 hour & head up that lovely m6 at rush hour!!
OH the joy! but it is worth it.......to watch my beloved warriors!
come on lads!
