Amos back in 8 weeks, in time for saints at home :)

Post by tonyteastain »

Wigan Warriors can today confirm that Amos Roberts has ruptured his Posterior Cruciate Knee Ligament and will be out for approximately eight weeks.

The injury was sustained as Roberts scored his second try in Easter Monday's 54-14 win over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the DW Stadium.

He was taken from the field on a stretcher and immediately sent to hospital where an X-ray cleared the free-scoring Full Back of any break but a later scan unveiled the ligament damage. Amos will undergo further consultation today (Wednesday) to determine the best form of rehabilitation for his injury.

Head Coach Michael Maguire said:

"Amos has been enjoying his football and has been doing a great job for us, but we've got some good people who can come into the team.

"I know Amos will work extra hard to get back to full fitness as soon as possible."

Wigan can also confirm that Thomas Leuluai picked up a bruised foot in the game against Wakefield, an injury that is being monitored as the week progresses, whilst George Carmont and Cameron Phelps could return for the Warriors in this weekend's game at Salford.

Wigan Warriors' Amos Roberts out with cruciate injury

Roberts was injured in a collision with the goalpost
Wigan full-back Amos Roberts will be out for approximately eight weeks with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury while scoring his second try in the Warriors' 54-14 rout of Wakefield.

He was taken from the field with a suspected broken leg but a scan later revealed ligament damage.

"Amos has been doing a great job for us, but we've got some good people who can come into the team," said Warriors head coach Michael Maguire.

"I know Amos will work extra hard to get back to full fitness as soon as possible."

Wigan have also confirmed that scrum-half Thomas Leuluai picked up a bruised foot in the game.

However, centre George Carmont and wing Cameron Phelps could return for the Warriors in this weekend's game at Salford.

So that means he'll do a Rooney and be back for the Quins home match :)

I wouldn't rush him back and the way we're playing we are comfortable to leave him out for a few games when he starts training fully again. IMO anyway - the league could change starting this sunday who knows.

Roberts back in six weeks!!

Post by josie andrews »

Michael Maguire will hand Cameron Phelps a chance to impress this weekend – as he keeps his fingers crossed that Amos Roberts only misses FOUR Super League matches.
Wigan revealed this week that Roberts – who has poached 12 tries this season – was expected be out for eight weeks after damaging a knee ligament in last Monday's 54-14 mauling of Wakefield.

Fit-again Phelps will come straight in as a direct replacement for Sunday's trip to Salford.

But Maguire last night spoke of his hope that Roberts may be able to cut the initial rehab forecast by a quarter – and get him back into the side in six weeks.

And if that happened, Roberts would miss just four Super League games, as well as two Challenge Cup rounds, and be able to return for the trip to Brian Noble's Crusaders on May 22.

Maguire said: "It's a six to eight week injury and hopefully we can get him back early. Fingers crossed we can bring him back then.

"It was good news that it's only going to be six to eight weeks, because it could have been the season, and hopefully Amos will come back bigger and better than he has been.

"In saying that, we've a good replacement there. Phelpsy started the year at full-back and had Amos pushed out to the wing. I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Good news. It also implies that Madge sees Amos primarily as a full back, and therefore that Goulding is keeping Phelps out.

Phelps has been fit for the last 2 games but has not been selected. The form of Roberts, Richards and Goulding has kept him out of the team.
