According to an article in the Sunday Telegraph today on Dave Whelan, in 1989 he had the chance to buy 51% of Man U for only £11 million but decided that his JJB stores in Liverpool and London would have their windows smashed every night so decided not to!
I think that that puts all talk of him being a shrewd financial operator to bed here and now, 51% in 1989 for £11 million, 51% of Man U sold to the Glaziers for £450 million. Um, sounds like my financial planning over the years that does.
