I watched the incident again last night and I really don't think it's that bad. Yeaman tried to stand up to him rather than tackling low and got smashed. Basic physics laws caused the arms to slide up from Yeamans chest to his throat. It's probably a penalty but I genuinely don't think he deserves a ban for it.
To put it another way, if JT had gone in with a forearm/elbow raised to deliberately hurt Yeaman....don't you think he would've hurt him?? Yeaman was not hurt at all in the incident.

AND... as so many people have pointed out, both should have been binned few seconds earlier. Ganson is such a clown. I've always thought he was a 'look at me' kind of ref but last night was a joke. This is what happens when a ref totally loses control of a game.

If the incident had happened the other way round everyone on here would be calling for a lengthy ban.
Joel will get banned and will deserve what he gets.
Joel is getting himself a reputation, most noticably amongst his own fans.
True he should have been in the sin bin, OK he didn't hurt Yeaman, but none of these are defences.
I loved the scrapping, it brought the game to life, but you have to accept the consequences that go with it.
The only down side is that a couple of years ago, there would have been earlier consequences from Ganson which would in all probability have stopped things reaching the stage they did.
“Usually the fans that abuse players like Sam have never done anything of any note themselves. They’re nobodies, whose greatest claim to fame is abusing someone who has, and these so-called ‘Eddie the Experts’ pretend to their mates that they have."

Have you seen the incident again on TV, Joel goes in with his arm down and tries to hit him hard. Yeaman goes to try and crunch him but can't stop him. His arm only comes up after and Yeaman reacts after his team mates get involved.

yes Joel is getting a reputation, one that he won't stand around when his brother is getting clobbered. I wish there were more like him as maybe people wouldn't push us around so much.

When he connected with Yeaman, how many Hull players ran in? Now when Sam got smashed on numerous occasions, how many Wigan players ran in pushing?

None..no wonder Joel was worked up, I'm sat here with a sore throat because of it, and anyone near me in the east has a headache.

Has his history of pushing the old lady started effecting his game. He is normally a referee intolorant of incidents like this.
Granny-bashing Ganson should go to specsavers

Yes, he should never have taken that ball up first after the brawl, but the rest of the team around him are also incidents for not taking the ball from him (i.e. allowing him to do so) it was always going to end badly for Joel!

Maguire said he thought Joel Tomkins’ challenge on Yeaman was “sloppy” rather than malicious.

He said: “It was a bit of a sloppy one there. It connected on the chest and the elbow went up, so we’ll assess that in the week.”

Good to hear MM saying that. Looks like they'll defend Joel. I hope so anyway.

Not on previous evidence, Joel will be told to plead guilty, as will Sam. Joel will get three matches, Sam two, and Wigan will accept it.

Hope to god they stand by the players this time. We got shit on from a great height yesterday, it would be totally wrong to be shit on from a great height again tomorrow.

If the RFL impose bans, they are more of a bunch of red nosed over-sized shoe wearers than I gave them credit for!

He goes into contact with his arms across his chest ready to push out on contact. Yeaman is knocked back and loses grip in the tackle and Joel's arm raises as he pushes out. The Hull FC players charging in and complaining to Ganson suggested it was a lot worse than it actually was.
It is far from as clear cut as was first suggested although one would need to see it from several angles. As you state Joel was using his standard fend that he uses 20+ times every game so intent is impossible to prove and first point of contact could be interesting.
If Carvell got off with it under appeal last season, there is no reason why Joel shouldnt either.
