In a way i feel some sympathy for Betts. Carney, Guisett, Sculthorpe made big big errors and got punished.PorterjohLam posted:
I write after tonight. Ladies and Gentlemen of the board, we mostly all support Wigan Warriors. We're supposed to have good young players. We most certainly do...(See u21's record). However tonight, Betts said himself, we have our strongest side out.
We lost. This to me exemplifies the uselessness of Denis Betts as a Head Coach. I did support him, and I still support the players, but tonight's made my mind up.
No more excuses.
But the major problem tonight shows how important Orr is he went off and we went downhill. Unless we get changes now we can get sucked into a relegation fight. Ok i no that is the extreme way of looking at it but its becoming a reality.
I hope we do change coach on Monday, but i do hope Denis either resigns from his roll as Head Coach and allows Milward to come in. With respect to Denis he deserves to stay as assistant if that is the choice of his successor.
Kevin Brown is a disaster at stand off and his tackling is a joke in 1 on 1 situations. It is now time for a change and it needs to be done ASAP not after the next game. Apart from Aspinwall and Carney even though he made a big error no other player played the full game and came out with any credit. The team looks short on ideas and even shorter on confidence. The panicking near the line is like watching a team loosing and trying to the foprce the ball and we had that all the second half.
Re: No More Excuses...
Betts doesn't miss tackles or drop passes. Yes, the second half was as awful as the first was brilliant, but that's down to the players, not the coach.
If you want to point the finger at any of the coaching staff, it was our defensive display in the second half that cost us the game - that's Farrar, not Betts.

Re: No More Excuses...
Yes he is not a popular person but he is the best coach the SL has had and that is what we need. He gets good performances from average players. Look at the likes of Gardner, Hooper and the not so big pack he has almost always played with. He is the obvious choice and if you do not support the team due to Millward coming in then sorry you do not Care about the team and hate Millward more than you actually care for the team.wateva posted:

To be honest he needs to go more than Betts does. Unroftuantely we need to change things or sooner rather than later well end up in the bottom 2GeoffN posted:

Re: No More Excuses...
The way i see it its a choice o the lesser of 2 evils either change the coach or we are going to end up a relegation fight and if that means brining in Ian Millward then id be happpy to have him.PorterjohLam posted:
At the end of the day also Betts is top man- so he's accountable if anything goes wrong. He should know that. Farrar's a joke too, no idea why he was brought in.
And lets be honest about it he is the best motivator in the World of Rugby how do you explain the comebacks the Saints made over the years. He will have more hatred for the Saints than any of us will ever have.
Not only willl wew get a WC coach but a bitter and twisted man hell bent on revenge. Now hows that for motivation.
Re: No More Excuses...
First half wasnt brilliant at all, after recent performances I can see why you said that, all we did was complete our sets and scored 2 opportunist tries, completing your sets is not brilliant, its doing the basics right, at this level you expect players to do the basics, but we are not so when we do people say it was great rugby league, which it isnt.GeoffN posted:

Second half we just crumbled, it was pretty pathetic really. We made to many mistakes, both dropped ball and penalties, we didnt show any promise going forward again, as weve all said its the strongest team we can field, it isnt good enough, or the way they are playing is not good enough.
I feel sorry for Betts as the players are letting him down, first half we played to a plan, second half we played like we had been on the beer the night before.
So what do we do, we have a few options when players are not performing.
First you can replace them, which is to much to do.
Second, You change the coaching methods and gameplan, considering we are playing to a very simple gameplan anyway, and we cant even stick to that without dropping the ball, we are not going to gget anywhere trying somthing new.
Third, you replace the coach, this is the most common thing that happens when you lose 8 games in the first half of the season, when its a big club like we are.We are not good enough to win the Grand Final we all know that, but that team is capable of alot better than what we are seeing at present, so I'm afraid a new coach is what we need, a coach with experience, no more rookies, Mike Gregory's or Betts, get a coach whos proven what he can do, a guy whos been there before and knows what to do in situatuions like the one we find oursleves in, because Betts clearly does not know how to get us out of it.
Hes trying and his heart is in it, but right now he lacks experience and the managerial knowledge we need right now.
I wish he would step down and offer to take a back seat roll, and admit hes not got the experience yet to manage at the highest level, keep him at the club and let him learn for an experienced coach, and yes I am another who wants Millward in, but please Denis jump before you are pushed.

Re: No More Excuses...
This is my first post on this forum, even though I've been reading it since the start of this season. This is, however, the first time I have felt the need to post.
Like most of us, I have been a die-hard Wigan fanatic for as long as I can remember. (The frst game I went to was Wigan v Manly when I was a week old.) and, like all of us I bleed cherry and white. I am, however very upset this season, for the same reasons I was in 1997. I know something has to change because I'm sure you'd all agree that we were a different team in the second half today, which has been the case for a lot of games this season, but I just want to say that whatever happens, we can't stop supporting the side. Even if the extreme happens and we are in a relegation fight, the team needs us, Good Friday proved we do make a difference. No matter how annoyed or upset I get with our results, or the rest of us, we still need to stick by Wigan. We did when we were relegated, all be it, before I was around and even if people don't like the changes that might take place, ie losing Farrell, possibility of Millie coming in etc, we must stick by Wigan, after all rugby is the meaning of life.

Wigan 'til I die.
Re: No More Excuses...
We need somthing to spark us and if the spark is millward then that will do me.
ROFL
Re: No More Excuses...
Most of us here do stick by them. But this is the only place some will let rip id rather do it here than at the JJB. We need to support the team at all times when they play.Tom_McCooey posted:

But its getting to the point where we all knoiw now that Betts will not be the head coach much longer it a pity he has had to handle the shit this season as his heart is in the right place but he needs help and at this moment in time there is a coach out of work sitting at the JJB who will be thinking he could be working on monday.
I do hope Betts gets a job as his assistant i really do but we need a coach that can turn things round and i can not see Denis doing this.
Oh by the way welcome on the board.
