That Song!

Post by wigwar »

The one about all the legends from the glory years with the Kevin Iro-o-o-o chorus. I don't live in the Wigan area anymore and work stupid shifts so don't get to many home games, so I could be misinterpreting the singing of this song, but as we now have a team who have won the league leader's shield and the grand final and got us to a challenge cup final I find it disrespectful to the players on the pitch that we are still singing about the players of the past rather than them.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
Or can we change the names to include some of the current squad?

'we've had...' is used as past tense singing about the Greatness of our club. IMO Iro shouldn't be in and replaced with 8-in-a-row but thats just me, apart from that it's a good song.

doesn't really fit.

To be honest, I think you may have missed the point. The song highlights the Wigan Greats. To me, for the lads to hear the song "We're the greatest club in the world", and then reel off the names of the greats, it would instill confidence that they can be a part of that.

Certainly if I heard that, and I were in their position, it would spur me on to play better than i thought I could, to one day, hopefully, join the names in the Wigan RL Hall Of Fame.

hopefully when Paaaat retires we put his name where Barrett is. Trent was world class for us but Paaaaat is a club legend now and i hope he gets more prizes to show for it. just imagine

We've had Richard and Kenny, Edwards and Hanley, Boston and Kevin Iroo

doesn't look out of place does it

I change the last line too anl, to 8 in a row.

Can't sing about Kevin Iro since he went over to the dark side :o
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
