England's marked improvement in the tournament has been attributed to the detailed preparation they have received throughout the year and coach Steve McNamara revealed much of it had been decided after consulting Bennett.

McNamara said he had got many of his ideas for how to prepare England to challenge Australia from a meeting with Bennett at the Emerging Queensland Origin camp overseen by the former Australian coach and seven-time premiership winning mentor, who had charge of Lockyer for 14 seasons at the Broncos.
