They couldn't arrange a p122 up in a brewery! Why couldn't this game have been put back to Saturday. The 18s provide fantastic entertainment, but alas I will have to miss it due to my attendance in darkest Yorkshire!josie andrews wrote:Bloody typical fixtures

Wigan Warriors Under 18's grabbed their third win of the season after dealing a 34-6 defeat to local rivals St Helens.
Both sides gained wins in their last Vavoline Academy matches over Hull FC and Widnes respectively and were out to continue their winning streaks.
Wigan started the game well and had an early chance to take the lead after a St Helens mistake however centre, Ellis Grimes spilled an easy ball on the right side.
However the Warriors were handed another opportunity minutes later when Josh Rooney found winger Joe Burgess who dove over in the corner to open the scoring. Ryan Hampshire narrowly missed a touchline conversion leaving Wigan with an early 4-0 lead.
Wigan almost increased their lead and Burgess almost doubled his tally soon after but was unable to ground the ball after a Ryan Hampshire grubber to the corner.
Burgess did grab his second ten minutes later and left the defence in his wake after a clean break. A successful Ryan Hampshire goal made the score 10-0.
Saints fielded an attacking Wigan kick well with Mark Perciual racing down the field to come close to scoring. Saints continued to pressure and two plays later, Alex Clarke went over from the play the ball to score Saints' only try of the encounter. Perciual converted the try from under the sticks making the score 10-6.
Minutes later, St Helens successfully kicked a 40-20 giving them head in feed ten meters from their opponents line. However, courageous Wigan defence prevented the Saints from levelling the score.
On the thirty minute mark, Saints touched down after a chip over the top however both touch judges stood off the flag signalling to the referee that a Saints player was offside. The referee took the touch judges' advice into consideration and disallowed the try allowing the present Wigan fans to breathe a sigh of relief.
Wigan added more pressure before the break with Josh Rooney breaking the line down the left hand-side. He was unable to finish his break however later in that set, Ryan Hampshire broke the line to score making use of the excellent field position presented to him. Hampshire converted his own kick giving the Warriors breathing space at the break with a 16-6 scoreline.
Wigan started off the second half better than their opponents and Joe Burgess came close to grabbing his hat trick but could not keep control of the ball after a kick to the left.
Yet it was Wigan who grabbed the first try of the second stanza after Ellis Grimes wrong-footed Saints defenders to go in under the sticks. Hampshire took advantage of the easy position to add the extras giving the Warriors a comfortable 22-6 lead.
Wigan almost added another when Joe Burgess took advantage of a 20 meter restart to race seventy meters down the field; the ball was passed on to Lewis Tierney and then on to Josh Rooney however referee, Scott Mikalauskas brought play back for an obstruction earlier in the set.
Tierney was the next to score for the Warriors and in doing so raised a smile from parent Jason Robinson who was sat in the crowd cheering on his son. Ryan Hampshire put the game beyond doubt at 28-6 with another successful kick at goal.
Wigan rubbed salt into Saints' wounds with another try minutes before the final hooter with Mike Scrivens diving over in the corner after successive passes to the right hand side. A magnificent touchline conversion from starlet Ryan Hampshire made the score 34-6 at full time.
Next up for the Warriors is an away trip to Hull KR where Matty Peet's men aim to gain their fourth successive win of the season.

The U18s have rich potential. Burgess is a fantastic wing prospect whilst I think Hampshire could be the best half back prospect at the club incl George Williams.

CP, I'll be interested to see if Williams and Hampshire are the halfback combination on the upcoming academy tour of Australia.cpwigan wrote:The U18s have rich potential. I wasn't at all impressed with the other option incumbent number 7 Danny Yates of St Helens so hopefully they offer more than him.
I see Chris Taylor is on the u/18 player profiles page, he must be closing in a return to action.
