Research on the state of British society
I've just started a research project looking at whether Britain is regressing to a less civil state with less social constraint and more casual aggression. The questionnaire has just gone live at http://www.topfan.co.uk and as you’ll see, the questions are very current. Is British society going through what sociologists would refer to as a de-civilising trend? Have your say in the survey and thanks in advance.

And the reason you're posting this on a Rugby League fans forum is.........?

De-civilised? Must have been to St Helens.
Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

Interesting research - My eldest was born & grew up in Melbourne and listened to stories from all the family about what live was like in the UK - As an adult he traveled there & worked there for a few years....................
He didn't find many traces of the great place he'd grown up hearing about.
Lots of drunken violence though :conf:
I think it would be wrong to pin this to a UK only decline.
It seems to be a worldwide thing, just differing by degrees around the globe.

As a nation, I'm afraid we have never learned how to enjoy a drink!bourbon_rat wrote:Interesting research - My eldest was born & grew up in Melbourne and listened to stories from all the family about what live was like in the UK - As an adult he traveled there & worked there for a few years....................

I would concur. Misconduct is a global phenomenon.bourbon_rat wrote:Interesting research - My eldest was born & grew up in Melbourne and listened to stories from all the family about what live was like in the UK - As an adult he traveled there & worked there for a few years....................

I would say the more developed a country becomes the less civilized it becomes owing to liberal approaches to law and order and prioritising personal freedom over society. Society may not even exist.
The caveat re development is that some incredibly early stage LEDC countries became frighteningly uncivilized as greed / evil sees a minority seize control. Perhaps on the whole, not always, tribal groups were more civilized?
