If as the story states they need backing from the council, then its unlikely to happen. The council are under pressure not to make loans to Salford as they are likely to lose the money.

It certainly seems to be the most positive news coming out of Salford for some time. Really hope it all comes off. I'd love to see another north west club challenging for silverware!

Brief looking at company history etc suggests that this arab is not a Man City type arab. More of a landlord/training company person.

Dr Marwan Koukash in advanced talks to save Salford City Reds

Dr Marwan Koukash has revealed he is in advanced talks to save Salford City Reds and is keen to get the club back among Super League's elite.

Koukash, the owner of an executive training company EuroMaTech, said he hopes a deal can be struck in the very near future.

He told the St Helens Star: "My interest is very strong. There is still a lot of ongoing talks and agreements to be made but discussions are at an advanced stage.

"My plan is not just to save Salford but to turn it around, make it a competitive team - which is capable of winning trophies. Otherwise I would not be interested."

"I have a strategy for the club that will strengthen it and make it compete at the highest level and from a financial point of view to find ways of generating more outside income.

"I reiterate the most important thing is to save the club and to lead it into a financial position where it can compete at the highest level."

Salford staved off the threat of liquidation at a court hearing in Manchester on 7 January and Koukash added: "The last time I saw a rugby match the atmosphere was great. Give me the choice of attending a rugby or a football match and I would choose rugby.

"Football could learn a lot from rugby."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

There are big (Peel Holdings) plans in the pipeline at the moment to put a port on the canal and develop the whole area around the ground, I believe the planning permission applications are already in, some local residents on that stretch of the A57 (between the M60 junction and the ground) and the side roads off are not very happy.

I work just up the rd, in Irlam and one of my colleagues is a member of Boysnope Golf Club, on the A57. He told me last week that Peel holdings had bought the golf club and intend to extend Barton / Manchester City airport, to make it a business hub for the North.

Yes that is part of it, I've also heard there is a rail link coming off the mainline down between the cemetery and the airport across the A57 to the new port, an access road from the stadium to go along the canal bank under the M60 flyover with a new slip road up onto the motorway, and that the A57 is being straightened some of the local residents are to lose parts of their gardens under compulsory purchase orders.

It all sounds like a huge commercial project. I feel sorry for the locals that are going to be affected, but this could be a huge boost for the local area and create hundreds of jobs, I can also see how it could be a good thing for the rugby club too. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Funnily enough a leaflet from Salford Council was posted through my door this morning with information about the changes locally and timings for the works including the community open days to be held at Salford stadium this month.
I have scanned the map of changes and posted it at http://www.pbgv.biz/salfordroads.htm
The official website for the changes is at http://www.peel.co.uk/projects/portsalford
