Sam Tomkin’s the man for ambitious Salford

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

It was "lets bring Morely home" last week.

There is nothing wrong with him splashing the cash but he needs to realistic. He can't offer any more wages to Morley or Sam (or Chase) so he is on a hiding to nothing chasing players who have ambitions to win things.

The Salford fans will soon tire of being linked with yet another big name who isn't going to join them.

I am sure he can tempt more middle of the road players who will help Salford climb the ladder and when they are a more credible force then he can be taken seriously when he talks of signing the games best players. It took Wire several years to become a credible destination for top players and they were not starting at the bottom.

You are proberly wright it is only to get Salford into the news, but there is nothing wrong in that. Infact I quite like the chap, he is ambitious and does not lack drive,I think he will be good for the game and get rugby league into the news and talked about. He has alot work to do to get Salford off the floor and back compete'ing and encurage back the fans. It will take more than just money but good marketting as well. Regards fetching high profile names to Salford, that will be harder but not impossible. The likes of Sam will be beyond him as I believe like all great players Sam wants to push himself to his highest potential which will proberly be the NRL next for him. But if he sets his eyes a little lower and aims for players who are near the end of their time in superleague. There is plenty players of good quality around thirty years old who will jump at the chance to join the Salford revolution and please dont quote the salary cap at me there are ways and means to skirt that if you want to put your mind to it

Salford's audacious bid for Sam

Post by butt monkey »

Salford, under new owner Dr Marwan Koukash, recorded their first win of the season – and it can be revealed today the multi millionaire racecourse owner has made an audacious bid to land the game’s biggest name, superstar Sam Tomkins.

Koukash, who watched the City Reds win a pulsating, bruising encounter at Barton against Hull KR, wants the game’s poster boy to build on the unexpected triumph and help spearhead a bid to revive former glories at the famous old club.

He’s asked Wigan to name their price for Tomkins, an MEN columnist, who has attracted interest from Rugby Union’s marquee clubs as well as the cream of Australia’s top clubs.

The new Salford supremo has told MEN Sport he will bankroll a record transfer fee for Tomkins if Wigan will consider releasing their prize asset.

Koukash was today waiting to hear back from Warriors’ chairman Ian Lenagan after making an official approach to sign Sam.

Wigan selling Tomkins right now is highly unlikely with the Super League Man of Steel on a long-term contract and not allowed to speak to rival clubs until next year.

Interesting times at Salford. Linked with Morley, Chase and now Sam. Obviously attempting to give good news for their fans (for a change)

Merged - already a thread covering this topic :)
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
