New Signing.
Re: New Signing.
I posted in the early season that a Wigan player told me they had a player training with them initials AB, I wonder if I miss heard him and it should have been AP Andy Powel
Re: New Signing.
A 3 year deal for a 32 year old, with his history too, can't understand it??

Re: New Signing.
Like CPWigan indicates it's a bizarre signing if true!
It's does smell similar to the Gareth Thomas deal were the club sign a player with little league experience, on the wrong side of a playing career age-wise and with players all all ready chasing that position
If Wigan wanted an experienced prop why not simply keep Fielden? This has something to do with the Welsh link up I'm guessing

The biggest Room is the Room for improvement.
The best form of defence is attack!!
Out of the black and into the red, remember you don't get anything for two in a bed!!

Re: New Signing.
We do not have a big rugged Prop Forward in the mould of Graham, Morley, Peacock etc. and the contract is more than likely a two and a half year contract as contracts now tend to run from November to November.
Re: New Signing.
WW you were castigating Hock in a previous thread and now you want somewhat to play like Hock. Make you mind up
or does the dig at Hock suit an agenda
Peacock was never truly a big rugged prop was he. He was really a second rower who moved up very similar to Mossop.
Before you try to placate your confused state of mind by using Hocks discipline issues REMEMBER Morley and Graham have discipline issues. Graham is currently sat on his behind twiddling his thumbs for half a season.
Did we not sign Luaki on the pretext of being rugged. I cannot think of any prop bigger and more rugged than Tom Spencer.
Anyhow, times have probably moved on making the idea of an enforcer type virtually obsolete?
If you post with an agenda, the moment you start offering an opinion is comes across as confused and muddled. Never mind. Try harder next time

Re: New Signing.
The days of enforcer or rugged probs are over. Over the last few weeks we have had no real enforcer or a prop that scares other sides. But they all make yards all carry the ball well and all are good defenders. People call for these type of players but they are extinct now.cpwigan wrote:WW you were castigating Hock in a previous thread and now you want somewhat to play like Hock. Crosby, Spencer and Burke truly look like super league players and not the young players they are. Teams are more scared of Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards, Charnley than they are of our pack. Yet the pack is dominating super league and winning game after game.
Re: New Signing.
Very much Gimble. Forwards who can make decent yards but more importantly find the ground and get a quick play of the ball are what matters. Likewise forwards who have very good agility and can wrestle an attacker to delay the next play of the ball are everything these days.

Re: New Signing.
Sorry, but most people I know agreed with me that Wigan are missing a Prop Forward in the mould of Burgess, Carvell, Crabtree, Graham, Morley, Peacock etc.
And it would appear that the Club is of the same opinion with the signing of Powell.

Many people are sadly deluded seeing props through misty eyes imagining that you can 'enforce' as you did in the old days. Oddly, it rarely brough success post 1980.Whelley Warrior wrote:Sorry, but most people I know agreed with me that Wigan are missing a Prop Forward in the mould of Burgess, Carvell, Crabtree, Graham, Morley, Peacock etc.

Fans looking at things sensibly will or should remember a young tackling machine from South Sydney coming out the winner v the ultimate bad ass front row of Boyd/Tamtai/Jackson. I can remember teams going out of their way to roughhouse great Wigan teams and failing time after time. Halifax in the RT final was a classic example.
Even Kel Skerrett was far far more disciplined and controlled for Wigan than Bradford. Was Andy Platt just a damn good forward or a version of the romantic hogwash perpetuated by deluded fans.
The players listed are all very different. Crabtree is no bad ass prop. Carvell never was. Nor Peacock. Morley was no different to Hock and we know how highly you rate him lol Graham and Burgess are modern versions of Andy Platt or a Kevin Ward.
Powell will be 32 when he starts his contract. Not his greatest fan but retaining Fielden would have been a better option IMO. The one thing we do not know as yet is will we be retaining out existing props? Mossop for example.
Gimble's post is one of the best I have ever read on any RL forum.

If Mossop leaves, he will be replaced by another and based on his form so far this season and the form of other props he will not be missed that much.
For all we know, Mossop's agent may have started the rumour to secure a better contract?
