Hodgson and Farrel

Post by warriorjon »

Now i know we cant go bagging players off the back of 1 game but either Hodgson has to improve his defence or has to be dropped. His decision making sometimes is awfull and his positioning even worse, eg flying out of the line alowing Gardner a walk in when nothing was on. Fair dos brown missed a stinker but he has had much less 1st grade game time than Hodgson. Hodgsons go forward does seem to have improved but im still not convinced he has a future with Wigan or a top 4 team. Farell on the weekend seemed to be attempting to change his game ie, running out wide taking the ball up etc. Dont like the way he tried to step and lost his momentum but the idea was right and old habbits die hard a few passes that were worrying to say the least. Would have to say though his defence was awesome and think this justyfied his place in the starting line up alone.

You don't think that Farrell's impeccable kicking including several from the touchline in front of thousands of baiting Scousers justified his selection then. Kicking proved decisive on the night. We had a true Wiganer who handled the pressure, they had Scully who bottled a couple of kicks. Get of Farrell's case. I'm sure that people who question his worth either don't go to games or know zero about the sport.

Chris where in my initial comments did i criticise Faz? In my opinion it was one of his better games and as said think he attepmted to change his game to play to his strength. I think we may have another member of the jump to conclusions deffend Faz at all costs brigade!

Pull the other one. It went beyond that ages ago evidenced by a post appeared on one message board about him first game back after injury making the usual complaints when he had a good if quiet (by his standards) game and did little wrong. It was just jumping on a bandwagon to be controversial for the sake of it.

While the poster got the wrong end of the stick as regards the opinion expressed on Farrell at the start of this thread, the opposite camp are just as quick to slag him off.

Objectivity went out of the window a while back on this one - form both sides despite claims to the contrary.

I have in the past been a big critic of Farrell, but in the last two games he has taken a step back, th siants game was a cracker, saints expected him to get the ball, he didnt they panicked!

Farrell is a highly distructive runner who can break a tackle and unload, he is a classic second row, he gets the majority of the stick when he trys to win games on his own, look at the leeds game, when lammy went off we were next to useless, but when andy plays as a back row and is not at first reciever the entire team attacks, not one man.

Farrell will be automatic in the wigan team, as edwards was(he also had his share of critics but i wish we stil had him)his kicking and workrate alone make priceless, a second row of farrell ad hock with tickle at loose will do for me!
There are 10 types of people, those who get binary and those who dont!

For AJ :-).

What a difference a game makes. Hodgson MoM and Farrell players player of the match. Farrell was awesome and Hodgson showed some fine handling skills to take some bad passes and two tries.

To quote John Kear, Hull assitant coach:

"It was a bit like boxers slugging it out and up to the 70th minute when David Hodgson got his second try it could have gone either way.

"I thought Andy Farrell was sensational and Wigan's defence was very good indeed."
