Wane favourite for New Zealand Warriors job
WIGAN coach Shaun Wane has been installed as favourite with a leading bookmaker to take over at NRL outfit New Zealand Warriors.
Matt Elliott resigned in wake of a 37-6 loss to Cronulla.
Online betting agency sportsbet.com.au has released an early market on who will be named the New Zealand club’s next permanent coach, installing Wane as a short priced 6/4 ($1.50) favourite to take on the role.
Andrew McFadden, who joined Elliott’s staff in 2013, will act as head coach of the club for the remainder of the year and is listed at $3.25 to retain the role next season.
St Helens coach Nathan Brown and Neil Henry are also in the mix.
Wane has never shied away from the fact he would like to coach in the NRL at some stage in his career. He has been linked with the NZ Warriors in the past. He is close friends with their general manager, former Wigan captain Dean Bell, and his stock is high after guiding his hometown club to a league and Cup double last season.
Wane, out of contract at the end of 2014, revealed at the start of this season he had verbally agreed a new three-year deal - but there has been no official confirmation of an extension.
New Zealand Warriors spent big in the off-season to recruit Wigan’s Sam Tomkins on a world-record transfer fee, but they are 13th in the 16-team league after two wins from their opening five games.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Suppose it's going to yet another season of will he/won't he. I really do hope the club come out and put this to bed ASAP instead of being tight lipped.

If the club make no comment its probably true. If the club emphatically deny it, its most likely true.If Shaun says I know nothing about it he probably does.Looks like another Sam saga!!!!!! :exc:

Perhaps there was more to Mrs Wane accompanying Mrs Tomkins to NZ last year. Lest we forget Bell and Wane were very good friends at Wigan.
The big worry for me is if Bitcon was lured.

and with Lestyn Harris being approached it wont be great!
Re: Wane favourite for New Zealand Warriors job
Totally agree with this. I agree also about Bitcon, I think he would probably be a bigger loss to the club than Wane. There is also the distinct possibility that Wane would take some of our better players with him.cpwigan wrote:Perhaps there was more to Mrs Wane accompanying Mrs Tomkins to NZ last year. Lets wait and see though, he hasn't taken the job yet.
