Wigan Rugby League Club are sad to hear of the death of former player Bill Bretherton.

Bill played 119 times for the Wigan Club over five seasons, scoring 13 tries. A member of the 1959 Challenge Cup winning team alongside names such as Billy Boston, Eric Ashton and Brian McTigue, Bill also won a League Championship with Wigan as well as the Lancashire League.

The Club offers its deepest condolences to Bill's family and friends at this time.

Bill's funeral will take place this Thursday (21st August), 11:30am at Upholland Parish Church.

RIP Bill, sincere condolences to his family at this sad time
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,

RIP Seggy.

Once played the second half of a match with a broken leg, after the coach at half time told him to 'run it off'.

OMG!.... It's not a game for the faint hearted ..can you just imagine footballers doing that? ..never saw him play but condolences to his family

His daughter was in my class at school. She married another lad from class who's dad was Kenny Banks, Latics Trainer!
