Remembering Terry Newton

Post by josie andrews »

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the untimely death of former Wigan hooker Terry Newton.

A talented number nine and popular figure amongst Warriors fans, Terry made 185 appearances for the Wigan Club betweeen 2000 and 2005 scoring 74 tries.

Partly in response to the issues raised by Terry's death, the RFL created the State of Mind campaign to help all of us think more about those suffering from mental illness. If you would like more information about the campaign and how you can use the tips and help available go to www.stateofmindrugby.com

Our thoughts and well wishes are with Terry's family and friends at this time as they remember a man who gave his all for whichever team he played for whether that was Wigan, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield or Great Britain and loved the game of Rugby League. Terry Newton RIP.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Not been forgotten by his Fellow players There have been streams of them all day calling at his dads. Had a chat with Morley and Brian Carney.

Time has flown by. Will always remain one of my favourite players. Gave his all every time he pulled on a shirt and was proud to do so.
Will never forget our 2010 Grand Final....you had that feeling he was watching over us that day....maybe he could do the same this year should we earn our place again in two weeks time....
Rip Terry. One of the best.

Can't believe it's 4 years since he left us.
Such a waste, but at least some good has come out of his untimely demise if a life is saved through the State of Mind.

Seems longer to me. Probably because he wasn't playing for us for a while before he finished playing completely.
