Warriors Academy to face Australian Schoolboys
Re: Warriors Academy to face Australian Schoolboys
The players selected for the National Team will not be available. However, Doran, Sutton and Tierney will be available. Whether smoke screens, Peet says no specific training for the game, concentrating upon pre season training.

Those three players are all overage or has there been some concessions as it's a club game?cpwigan wrote:The players selected for the National Team will not be available. Not sure No Straw, just what the Wigan Observer states.
The Observerhas a big spread, nearly a full page and Tierney in a full page picture with the captionLewis Tierney could figure for Wigan's U19s against Australia this Saturday
The article says

The article says
"Peet has been forced to make several changes to the line up which beat Warrington to win the GF a month ago.
Some are now too old for the U19s while Shorrocks, Waterworth, Gregson and Gildart are unvailable because they are in the England squad.
Ryan Sutton, Jamie Doran and Lewis Tiernet may play.
"We've not changed our pre-season schedule, so we'll not do a great deal of game prep. But theres no reason why we can't give them the hardest game of their tour. Theyll get no change out of us thats for sure" Matty Peet

I think it all depends on where the cut off is regarding ages. As Lewis played in the under 19s grand final I would assume he's still eligible as we are still in the same year. Maybe Josie might know, do they run January to January or do they do the same as schools 1st September to 31st August?

For the normal academy season it runs in line with the school year 1st September to 31st August. That's why I asked the question about those three players. However it may be different depending on the Aussie Schools age qualification. Maybe The Eclipse would know.Green Machine wrote:I think it all depends on where the cut off is regarding ages. All those three are in the same age academy group as Burgess, Williams, Hampshire, Lever etc.

That's interesting. I don't want to appear pedantic but Matthew Fleming from St. Helens played in their academy this year and he's 21 in January.????

I don't think so. He signed for Saints at the same time as Ollie Davies, Dave Hewitt etc.Green Machine wrote:That's interesting. I don't want to appear pedantic but Matthew Fleming from St. Helens played in their academy this year and he's 21 in January.????
Lewis Tierney turned 20 in October.

I know that's why I think his d.o.b. is wrong on the Saints site. If it was correct he couldn't have played in those games.Green Machine wrote:Matty Flemming played in all three of acadamy games this year.
Latest from Cumbria- Regional Academy 6 Aussie Schools 38 at halftime.

Yes the age of Matthew Fleming on the Saints site is definitely wrong.
The Australian Schoolboys team is under 18's.
I wonder if Rob Lever may be playing too, i think Wigan will need him to combat the size of the Aussie forwards, Leilua for example is 115kilos and can run like a centre.
