Proud Peet – I Wish We Could Play Them Every Week
Wigan Warriors Under 19's Head Coach Matty Peet was ‘immensely proud' after his team pushed the Australian Schoolboys side all the way in their 18-36 defeat this afternoon.
Reacting after a pulsating contest at the Solid Strip Community Stadium, Peet commented: "My team are a credit to the Wigan Club and I am immensely proud of them. It was a great experience for the lads, although we're disappointed not to get the victory.
"I think we just ran out of bodies in the end, but take nothing away from Australia, credit to them as they have some talented players. Their intensity and athletic style makes them the World class team they are and I wish we could play them every week!"
Matty heaped further praise on his players stating: "Australia have some special players, but we have some special players of our own. Going forward in their careers, I expect some of our lads to beat Australia, as today was a game we could have and maybe should have won."
Peet then singled out some of his team saying: "Ryan Sutton was outstanding, to play in the forwards for the full game when it was unlimited substitutions takes some doing, he was absolutely relentless.
"Jamie Doran showed his class too with some nice plays and a great try, which proves our faith in him. Oliver Gildart also played brilliantly as he was a constant threat, and held up well in defence against some big bodies."
The Warriors Coach then commended the scholarship Coaches stating: "Huge credit has to go to the scholarship Coaches, as they do an amazing job and today evidenced that. We had some young 16 year olds on our bench such as Max Dudley, Jack Wells, Josh Ganson and Josh Woods who will all improve immeasurably after today
"It was their first game of Academy Rugby and what a start that is against probably the best team they will face, it is a tribute to the scholarship coaches that they all fitted in seamlessly."
Regarding injuries, Peet said: "There are some breaks there unfortunately, but that's Test Rugby. There are some who will miss a chunk of pre-season training now; we always knew that was a risk when playing in this game, but it was still a great fixture to be involved in so well worth it."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

In regards to the test matches, England have picked a piss weak forward pack and i think that is where Australia will steam roller them.
The centres are fairly even, i really rate Toby King from Warrington and obviously Gildart looks class.

Went to the game & was looking forward to watching it when I got home.
Although it was shown live, it's not available to watch on Wigan TV for 48 hours!

Not a chance unless they can achieve parity in the pack. Last time we had the Burgess twins. The Eclipse wrote:No he is not mate.cpwigan wrote:Eclipse is Brock Lamb related to Terry Lamb?

We beat them in both Test Matches at Leigh when they last came over.cpwigan wrote:Not a chance unless they can achieve parity in the pack. Last time we had the Burgess twins. The Eclipse wrote:No he is not mate.cpwigan wrote:Eclipse is Brock Lamb related to Terry Lamb?

As for yesterdays game, both teams had skill but only one team again had the muscle and stamina to play the whole game.
Make you wonder how over the last 30 years or so, how their players have become bigger and stronger than ours, even at Under 18 level?

Indeed when we had the Burgess twins.
Size? Lots of pacific islander influence who are notoriously big at junior ages.

A terrific performance from our lads. Had we not had those amount of inquiries I'm sure the score would have been a different story. Another stand out for me was Luke Waterworth, boy does he tackle above his weight. I don't subscribe to Wigan tv so maybe when Josie has watched it she might be able to clarify a few things. How did Wells get his injury? He seemed to score with no one on him then came up seeing stars and his shorts ripped????. The injury to Sherrat I thought was their number 11 twisting his leg in the tackle in fact there was a fair few of those. All in all great game. Lets hope the England lads can do the same.

I was talking to an ex Whitehaven RL pro who has good friends and contacts in NRL and he was saying that as kids in Rugby League the don't train and play in age group denominations, they play by weight size instead. How many times do you watch an amateur U15's match and the kid whos 3" taller than the rest scoring all the tries. I remember it well as a 14 year old travelling down to Waney, Millom, Barrow etc and they all had moustaches and beards at that age. [/list]
