Wigan v Cardiff City: Take a look at the DW Stadium pitch that they struggled to play rugby on let alone football
The DW Stadium played host to some rugby league at the weekend, and the pitch suffered as a consequence
Cardiff City go on the road to face Wigan at the DW Stadium on Tuesday and the playing surface leaves a lot to be desired.
Rugby league side Wigan Warriors share the ground with the Latics and they welcomed the Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Series on Saturday.
At the beginning of the match the pitch was okay, but there were some seriously big blokes colliding with each other and the pitch suffered as a result.
By the end of proceedings, it was difficult enough to play rugby league on, so it'll be pretty tough to play football on.
If ever there was a time to be lumping it up to Kenwyne Jones, this might be it.
If one was being cynical, you might suggest that the conditions under foot won't have too much of an effect on Cardiff's simple and direct style of play.
The pitch appears to be at its worst down the middle of the field, but near the touchline it looks to be okay.
Russell Slade's men have struggled to find any real width in recent weeks, but it might be a good idea to start spreading it a bit on Tuesday.

It's not took long has it??
Two games in & it's the rugby's fault the state of the pitch ????????
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Typical nonsense from the Football lot and will be even worse if a Latic's game is televised.josie andrews wrote:Two games in & it's the rugby's fault the state of the pitch ????????

Can't play football now unless a pitch is like a bowling green.

Think that reporter needs to go and have a look at the pitch at Orrell. First team train on it as do the 19s and 16s, as well as them playing games on it. It's in first class condition compared to DW pitch.

The ground was built on land with a high water table, the pitch needed to be raised by at least 2 foot and if it does not get raised will never be any better in inclement weather conditions especially periods with lots of rain
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White

My concern is what action the FA might take in relation to the poor condition of the pitch - particularly if some Clubs start complaining about it.
For example, what if the FA insists that the pitch is relaid?
As far as I see, it has been a perennial problem and I agree about the high water table.
I thought extra drains etc. had been installed a couple of years ago?

If you take the time to trail the internet you'll find there is alot of ground sharing.
Wigan, Hull, Huddersfield, Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers, Reading with onion.
