In the international rule book it states that a scrum is passive and is a means of re starting the game in a instace of a break down in skill!!!!

what is the point if the ball is rolled right near the edge of the scrum you might as well just hand the ball over and let the opersion and let them tap it. :o

the old scrums used to be best where both hookers where nearly on the ground and it was who was fastest to the ball the ball had to be put in the middle of the scrum not behind the second rowers foot

Can't agree with this Doug.

In union a scrum against the head is as rare as in League. Because the scrums are "competitive" they are set again and again, often taking mins to complete. Indeed a couple of WC's ago an attacking scrum took 12 MINS to complete!!

League scrums donot reqire "specialist" and therfore we have rid the game of roly poly props and lumbering forwards who's job was soley to win possession in the scrum. This has led to far more athletic forwards who contribution to the game is more than just trapsing from scrum to scrum.
