Would be good to see Charnley at Centre, but still Joel will do a good job as he did when sarge was out

Too be honest I would rather have another player there as Joel always seems to get caught out in defence when at centre.charging out of the line and moving infield to take out the bigger players comes to mind.apart from that I think he's way to valuable in our back row in both defence and attack.not sure when Thornley is back so charnley might be an option or maybe Bateman who has showed up well there when he's been out there in emergencies

intresting unless im reading that wrong, the article says Charnley is injured still but his Wigan page says fully fit.

be intresting to see how Gelling missing will effect our attack. he makes alot of hard metres and kept the defence guessing.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Wane has mentioned Rhodri Lloyd possibly coming back to the squad for Friday.maybe that's who he sees as gellings replacement with all the injuries.he also states that he had charnley in mind but he jarred his ankle in training.

Thought ide post this just in case anyone is interested.........

Pit stop for Wane's Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors stars have been going down to what coach Shaun Wane terms ‘‘The Pit’’.

They have been wrestling at their Marsh Green training camp to make sure defence is good in readiness for Friday’s Super League clash with Hull KR.

Wane himself has been grappling with his charges.

He says it is good variation but centre Anthony Gelling has been watching on from the sidelines.

He tore a hamstring in the win at Wakefield and will be out for up to eight weeks.

Skipper Sean O’Loughlin is also ‘‘getting there’’ according to Wane following knee surgery.

Josh Charnley jarred an ankle in training.

Wane has been toying with the idea of playing Charnley as a centre.

Speaking of centres, Iain Thornley has bulked up to 109 kilos and is another player on the comeback trail.

Wane wonders if firm grounds could be the reason for the increase in injury across the board in Super League.

He told MEN Sport: ‘‘The pitch at Wakefield was certainly very firm. My players felt their backs as a result. Defences have also got a great deal smarter.

‘‘I have noticed the changes from 2010. We could go to places like Hull KR and put 80 points on them but you are now under the pump in such games - hence the reason for me going greyer!

‘‘When injuries occur, I like to throw the youngsters in. You get on with it, that’s why you have a 35 man squad.’’

Wane refused to be drawn on Salford’s call for their next game to be postponed due to an horrendous injury list.

He added: ‘‘Salford are a stand alone club. My only concern from Salford is my two players - Oliver Gildart and James Greenwood - who are there now on loan.

‘‘Oliver was great against Castleford and he will improve. He is smart and he is going to be a big player who will get even better with physical maturity.’’

Wane still talks up the old system of colts and 'A' team rugby having been blooded on this himself.

He rates Hull KR and is wary of the threat posed in the halves and leadership of Terry Campese.

He adds: ‘‘We will continue to run hard in structure. I don’t want us to be a basketball team. The loss at Hull KR hurt us badly.’’

Rhodri Lloyd could figure on Friday.

Wane still hopes to catch leaders Leeds.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

SW's comments seem to suggest that Joel will go in the centres - Bateman to second row and Larne Patrick to loose-forward. Not sure he's serious about Rhodri Lloyd as a likely centre though.
