The quality of athletes, training and facilities out there is immense.
This, btw, is no different to what the Aussies did in the 1970's.
I've watched the game live in Canada and USA and there are players who could make the grade but it would need to be played over there, trying to fit a player in here would make even the best feel isolated when playing without body armour. Over there, it would be thirty-odd guys without the protective helmets etc and that would be a great leveller.
A couple of 'hard cases from Burtonwood' air base tried it at Oldham in the fifties but they couldn't hack it.
In the 50's our forwards weighed 13 stones. I don't think we can draw conclusions from a couple of numpties from the air force 60 years ago and the physically honed athletes of today.
The point I am making is that in the USA athletes are extremely focussed, given the very best facilities, and the very best development.
Whilst there is no guarantee that they could "transfer" to RL, it surely has to be examined.

Didn't one college player try out down in France?
Which half decent NFL player or potential player is gonna jack it in for a move to England?
These guys go through 'college' before they find out whether or not they get a shot.
Surely they'd be close to mid-twenties????
Non-story, IMO.

It would take 10 seconds to find a good winger from the NFL
100 yards in under 10 seconds with a good build around 17 stone.

I think that's what's driving it.sc74 wrote:Didn't one college player try out down in France?

e.g. Players who "just" can't make it in NFL, given a chance to try out RL.
They would still be very good athletes (potentially).

But how old, and with no rugby knowledge?Wintergreen wrote:I think that's what's driving it.sc74 wrote:Didn't one college player try out down in France?

Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

This is the conclusion taken from Yahoo Sports about Brent Calloway:ddtftf wrote:It would take 10 seconds to find a good winger from the NFL

Conclusion: This super-athletic defender will surely be a terror on kick/punt coverage teams. Once he proves himself on special teams he will be given a chance to be an every-down positional player. Look for him to end up as an all-conference selection before his college career is over.
This is taken from totalrl.com in regards to his trial at Les Cats:
The 22-year-old, who has played running back for the University of Alabama in the past, has been training with the French club’s reserve side over the past week. However, Dragons CEO Christophe Jouffret confirmed he will not be given a deal, largely owing to him having no previous experience of Rugby League.
“Brent showed a great potential during the physical tests, but having no previous experience of rugby league is a huge disadvantage and he has to learn the game,” Jouffret said.
“All the coaches were really impressed by his physical qualities, but as a club, we feel that his lack of experience and knowledge of rugby league cannot be bridged in a few months in the run up to our 2015 season."
This is not a personal dig at SW, but please tell me that he isn't serious.
