Re: Matty Smith
Sam T will make a big difference to our attack no matter where he plays. Next year is the right time to blood Hampshire in the halves. Interchanges will be reduced and the big boppers won't like Rocky, George and Sam running at them.Panchitta Marra wrote:Matty Smith IS too slow, been saying it for a year now.
He hasn't been playing consistently good either irrespective of his pace issue.
George Williams has speed but his creativiy and distribution hasn't been at its best recently.
In all this was clear against saints on Friday night, our forwards really took it to them but our ideas to get us over the try line failed miserably.
If George is allowed to play go forward rugby league like he's done throughout his career with a stand off beside him who can create and distribute well then I think we have a good half back pairing. As someone has said, maybe Sam Tomkins is the right man to back George up in the halves.

Will Rocky be given a consistent chance in the halves next season SEFC, there appears to be one or two in the pecking order ahead of him for a half back berth.shaunedwardsfanclub wrote:Sam T will make a big difference to our attack no matter where he plays. Re: Matty Smith
Our attack in the opponents 25 has been poor all season. We are kick happy because our halves cannot create an overlap for our wingers. If Andy Gregory had been playing on Friday we would have scored thirty points or more, Saints defended ok but thats because we lacked creativity. If Smith is not going to be the goalkicker then we need to replace him next season. Either we look for an experienced overseas half back for a season to bring Williams on or we could use Sam. If we want to bring in youth then we have Jake Shorrocks in the academy and Gabriel Fell who can play full back both are great prospects. But whatever happens can we please get a goalkicker.

Re: Matty Smith
For me Smith is average, but he fits the structured game Wane favours. When that doesn't break down a defensive line as it didn't against Saints, we lack creativity and flair.
Hampshire at 6 and Williams at 7 has to be the long term plan, lots of pace and add Sam at FB and it will scare defences. At present the attack is just too predictable.

Yes we have in the form of Williams who is a Scrum Half.cow yeds wrote:Smith is only in cos we have no alternative.
What we need is a top class Stand Off to be with him.
Either we play Hampshire in his correct position of Stand Off, especially as he is also a goal kicker or we recruit from elsewhere.
At the same time, where do we accommodate another class half back in Jake Shorrocks who like Williams is a Scrum Half playing at Stand Off and like Hampshire is also a good goal kicker?
Re: Matty Smith
i don't think Wigan fans are going to realize what Smith offers us until hes gone on injured. Wane obviously sees him
as a long term player, he was given a new long term contract after all and also gets a fair few outings as captain.
look at Aiton at leeds, no one credited him with how well
leeds were doing but since he has been injured there style
has had to change.
Hampshire may be a long term plan, look at Gildart a player that has come up and taken his chances much better than Hampshire (albiet in his correct position) maybe Wane sees Hampshire a couple of years of regular first team games yet.

These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Oli is playing in his chosen position, Rocky has never been given that opportunity.Caboosegg wrote:i don't think Wigan fans are going to realize what Smith offers us until hes gone on injured. Wane obviously sees him

Well said. Give Rocky the chance at his best position, like Oli has, and I think you will see Rocky shine.
