SAINTS are expected to learn later this week if they are to be selected for a game in the 2016 World Club Series.
Super League General manager Blake Solly tweeted that there would be a SLE decision on the third and final place this week, with Leeds and Wigan already taking the other two places.
Initially the plan had been for the places to be allocated to the Super League Champions, Super League League Leaders Shield winners and the Challenge Cup winners, but Leeds have already won two of those trophies and are in contention for the title.
The winners of Saturday night’s Grand Final will play NRL premiers North Queensland Cowboys in the World Club Challenge.
The losers of the Leeds v Wigan tie will take the second place in the series which takes place over three days from Friday, February 19 to Sunday, February 21.
The third spot looks like a straight choice between third-placed Huddersfield Giants and Saints.
Last year fifth-placed Warrington took part despite Huddersfield and Castleford finishing above them on the table, but qualified as the highest placed beaten semi finalist.
If the same criteria was applied this year the spot would be offered to Huddersfield first, on condition that they come up with a bond which was believed to be in the region of £175,000 last season.

But so far there are no clues as to who has been offered the fixture.
Saints, who have been strong supporters of the concept, played South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 2015 World Club Challenge in front of a capacity 17,980 crowd at Langtree Park in February.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Absolutely crazy. Should be Huddersfield by any criteria. If they don't wnat to play then fair enough, but otherwise it is theirs.josie andrews wrote:SAINTS are expected to learn later this week if they are to be selected for a game in the 2016 World Club Series.

Hudds were asked last year and refused, as did Cas.
Saints will get it, after all they were 2nd after the weekly rounds.

Saints will most likely get it as they are the only ones who could put up the £175,000. BUT will they take it?
